Pbbbt. It just ruins all the fun. I got my Dave Ramsey package today. It includes a book, DVD, and a workbook.

For those of you who don't know who DR is, he is a money management guru and teaches how to live debt free.

While I am excited at the prospect of being debt-free, it means one big, very important thing:

I HAVE TO LIVE ON A BUDGET!!!

No more fluffy mail for me for a while- at least unless Carolyn *needs* something and I write it in the budget.

is he the one that teaches you to put money in envelopes for different things? groceries in one, power bill in another, rent/mortgage... etc?

my old boss did that and loved it.

I just made my budget Saturday. Implementation starts next paycheck. I love getting out of debt but somehow it always seems like I have less money when it all goes where it's supposed to, lol. A lot less fluffy mail. At least I have most of my stash already OTW.

I can really recommend his stuff. It is more like how can you afford NOT to, kwim? It is really just common sense stuff, but it is so easy to get sucked into wanting junk and putting everything on a CC because you want instant gratification.

This is actually my second time around- I was faithful to the DR principles until my mom died last year, 2 months after my mother-in-law. I kinda went off the deep end and just didin't care. Retail therapy was my friend.

ETA: If you sign up for a class at a local church you get the package at a deeper discount- like $49 or so. A lot of churches offer the classes free or very cheap.

Exactly! Sinking funds are the pits! But it will be nice to have the money there when it is supposed to be.

DH and I did the course at our church and it was the best $100 we have ever spent! When we did our budget it made all the difference. It almost seemed like we had more money! The best part was not having stress every time I spent money. Every dollar had its place, so when I went to the grocery I didn't stress out thinking "Can we afford this?" I knew what we had agreed to spend and that was it, KWIM? We have fallen off the wagon and are just now starting to do the budget again before things get out of whack!
And you can still buy fluff-just build it into the budget!

we don't make enough to budget with dave but we do love him and take alot of his advice as we can. NO CC'S FOR US! and our cars are paid off
