Need a Veggie cookbook!
My stepsister is getting married. I wanted to put together a little gift basket of kitchen stuff for her. I don't know her real well, but I know she is a vegetarian. I need a cook book recommendation please!
I know she eats a lot of pasta and she is not a vegan. I don't think she cooks a lot of elaborate stuff so I guess I'm looking for something with everyday meals in it. TIA!

Re: Need a Veggie cookbook!
A Higher Taste is only $1 and has so many good recipes, lots of Itallian style, too, and everyday stuff. It helped my family when I started being a veggie.
http://www.webcom.com/~ara/col/books/VEG/ht/ This one is a classy vegan one, but has really creative 'world fusion' ideas, created by a friend of mine that started a great restaurant! http://www.blossominglotus.com/about_book.htm

Re: Need a Veggie cookbook!
Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home is a really good, basic cookbook for someone who doesn't spend a lot of time in the kitchen.
And for somebody who is a more experienced cook, I love Deborah Madison's Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone. Its really comprehensive and well-written. It even won a James Beard Award and a Julia Child Cookbook Award. |

Re: Need a Veggie cookbook!
I would recommend American Harvest. Great book. Lots of recipes for different tastes. The recipes are pretty simple - I'm not an elaborate cook, either. I have very few cookbooks - I only keep the ones I really use, and I kept this one when I ruthlessly decluttered the others. And, check out that link - you can get it really cheap now!

Re: Need a Veggie cookbook!
Here's another one called Simply in Season. You can google it or here is one link on where to find it. It's available at Borders, too, I think.

Re: Need a Veggie cookbook!
The Moosewood cookbooks are some of my favorites, too!
For fast simple meals (including pantry subs liked canned beans etc) I also like The COnvenient Vegetarian http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../chrisficti-20 Those books (and another cookbook I picked up on vacation, not available here) are the ones that see the most actio in our house. |

Re: Need a Veggie cookbook!
I'm not a huge fan of the mosewood cookbooks oddly enough. LOL. We are vegetarians, and I like The Healthy Kitchen, by Dr. Andrew Weil - a lot of vegetarian recipes and the others can be substituted: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../chrisficti-20
I also like 1,001 Low-Fat Vegetarian Recipes http://www.powells.com/biblio?PID=29...sbn=1572840579 I am a big fan of taking regular recipes and adapting them though- like subbing tofu for chicken, fake crumbles for ground beef, or leaving the meat out. My favorite recipes come from Cooking Light Magazine.
