How do you talk to your baby/toddler?

Am I the only one that pretty much always talks to my baby with some sort of wierd squeaky voice? It kind of wore off by about 2 1/2 or so for #1. #2 is 14.5 months, and I dont think I ever talk to him in a normal voice unless I am saying No, or excuse me (if he is into something hes not supposed to be into) How about the rest of you?

I speak normally, but if he says something cute with his words, like when he was one he'd sing "yeahyeahyeah" I'd sing it back.

I talk to her normally about 60% of the time. The rest of the time its usually some funny voice with a big goofy smile to match. She loves it! She'll usually imitate the face I make, or smack my leg as if telling me "do it again!".

I knew I was the wierdo here. It runs in my family. My grammy still talks goofy, and so does my mom. We are all a bunch of goofballs. I amke up songs and words, and I usually dont call my kids by their names either. I usually call dd yaya kookabear, and ds buttery bean.

I am not a fan of goofy baby talk...lol
But there are times when we're playing, or reading, or something like that - when goofy talk is inevitable.
We're very silly together, but when I'm talking to him I don't do the sing-songy voice, and I hate baby-fied words.

I don't think I really goofy talk to DD#1 at all. We talk to her like we do to each other. I might chop things to a "No touch." but no goofy talk here. We do mock her a little bit on how she pronounces things (like Sophie is pronounced foo-fee by her).

Yes me too.
My Mom's dogs probably think I'm the wackiest lady in town...but dogs are goofy and just soak up all the silly talk.

Re: How do you talk to your baby/toddler?

We do silly voices and things when we play or read stories and such but we've made it a rule to never babytalk. In fact we don't really hold back at all on our vocabulary with the kiddos because we explain what the words mean. Now I have a 3 year old with an amazing vocabulary...and she uses the words in correct context as well.

FWIW, babygaga speach annoyed the pants off me ... then I took child development courses & research shows this "Motherese" type of speaking enhances cognitive development -- now I'm all over it.
