HELP!!! My kids will NOT go to sleep!!

My 2 & 4 y.o must share a room. He (2) will not stay in a crib - he jumps out and gets in bed with Sis (4). Giggling turns to squealing and someone usually gets hurt. This goes on for an hour or two every night.
I would let them fight it out, but the baby is asleep across the hall!
I suspect that he's the one causing the problem because my four year old is exhausted by bedtime. She no longer naps, and the two year old naps from 1-3pm. I've tried eliminating his nap, but he's unbearable by four o clock and/or konked out somewhere by five!
We have a consistent bedtime ritual of story, songs, and prayer. Bedtime is 9:00.

Help me out , mamas, I'm at my wit's end!

Kind of sounds like he needs to be removed from the room. I'm sure it's not really an option from the sounds of it, but that might bet the only way.

How long has this been the sleeping arrangement? When the twins got out of their cribs the same behavior took place...It lasted a week or so and then the noverlty wore off.

Give it some time or even put a small reward system. When the boys were out of their cribs nap time was horrible. It must have been at least 3 weeks and multiple trashings of the room before they began to nap again. Good luck!

I feel your pain We have almost the exact situation, except the youngest isnt down the hall, hes pretty much right outside their door.

No advise though. Some days are better than others. Yesterday was a bad day. Tonight wasnt all that bad.

Could you try putting your DS to bed first and letting him fall asleep and then sending your DD in to bed after he goes to sleep. Just a thought, hope you find a solution.

yeah, i had thought of that. i will try it tonight.
i don't know what's going on with these kids! DD has gotten up every night for three nights saying there were bugs in the room or that her leg hurt( the hurt leg changed from right to left during the conversation).
DS sleeps all night, but it takes him FOREVER to go to sleep!

Re: HELP!!! My kids will NOT go to sleep!!

It sounds like you are describing MY two boys! DS 2 can't get out of bed, but he throws things at his older brother...who then in return throws them back. Like yours, SD 2 takes a long time to fall asleep. We have ended up putting ds 1 in our bed until ds2 falls asleep. Often, both of them will be asleep relatively quickly.

I agree. At two it might be easier to put your middle child to bed first then have the older one go to bed. We tried this, but my kids are a year older so my middle child would throw a tantrum saying "LUKE BED TOO". It might work if they were a year younger though!
