Re: Are your child's ears pierced?

Well, I got my first daughter's ears pierced when she was 16 months old. She's almost 10 now and loves wearing earrings. (I'm so glad for that; I would have felt awful if she hated it.)

We decided to wait for our second daughter. Ideally we thought we'd have them done for her 5th birthday or something special like that, but she is going to be 5 in a few months and has no interest in having them done. We'll wait until she asks.

Re: Are your child's ears pierced?

I'll let her get her ears pierced after she's 6 y/o. That way, she (hopefully) understands that she needs to keep the holes clean, just like her teeth, hair and everything else. And it's also something that you just don't do to a baby who's grabbing at their ears still. They can tug on their ears and rip the earrings out. Ouchies and a ER visit for stitches!

My own mom made the mistake of letting my granma take me to get my ears pierced when I was around 3 and they got infected. So they had to be taken out and allowed to heal. I got them re-pierced at age 11 and fared much better. No infections. But now I only wear earrings when I'm going out w/o my daughter.

Re: Are your child's ears pierced?

Haven't read the other posts, but I voted 6 or older because I feel that my girls should wait on ear piercing (if they want it) until they are mature enough to take care of them. (age isn't the issue, responsibility is here)

None of mine have pierced ears.
They can have them done (if they want to) when they are around age 13. Not before then.

I don't have girls, but I think I'll wait until if/when they ask and understand what's involved.

I had mine done at 5, they got infected and I wound up taking them out and letting them close up. Then I had them repierced at 11ish.

That's funny. I don't think I would like my DS ears pierced either.

I had my first DD's done at 14 months and I don't know if I want to do it with my seconds until she wants them.
