help stinky diaper pail

We have been having a stinky diaper pail I dont know what to do about it. We have been using a blue rubbermaid container with the lid and it has been fine. Unless i go like 4 days without washing however, now i cant go 1 day. I am not sure what has caused it to stink. The only thing i can think of is that we started feeding our daughter solids. We do have a diaper sprayer so i clean her pooppy diapers in the toliet wiht the sprayer and then sprinkle baking soda onto the diaper. Everytime she pees i sprinkle the diaper with baking soda.

what am i doing wrong?

Re: help stinky diaper pail

I don't put baking soda into the diaper, maybe that gives some sort of reaction with the urine? what i do is sprinkle it on the bottom of the pail and also do a mix of baking soda with borax.

Re: help stinky diaper pail

so you mix borax and baking soda half and half and then put it at the bottom?

I heard that borax is not good for your diapers
is that true?

Are you having to do any extra rinses wiht the borax?

sorry for so many questions . We have found our wash routine works very well so i am scared to mess it up

Re: help stinky diaper pail

I only put a little bit of baking soda at the bottom of my pail, never directly on my diapers. I always always always spray off any poo from my diapers and ring them out and then put them in the pail.

The baking soda directly on the diapers MIGHT be what's causing some of the stink you are dealing with?? Try not doing that and see if it helps.

I put several drops of tea tree oil on a wipe and toss it in w/ the dipes when DD poops. So far it's been covering up the stinkies. My DD just started solids as well and I really miss EBF poop...so much less stinky.
