Re: Can water break slowly?

YES! Happened to me with my fourth child! I was a month early and I thought I was having a bladder problem because I had a constant tiny trickle. I was wearing pads for two days before I got nervous that maybe something was wrong and I called the doctor. I was not having ANY contractions at all. They sent me right over to the OB ER where they tested and sure enough it was leaking! They did an ultrasound and determined that I had lost too much fluid at that point to try to stop things so they put me on Pitocin to try to induce labor. They had me on mega antibiotics also because at this point it was 2 days at least. After about 14 hours of the highest level of Pitocin which wouldn't progress me pass four centimeters, they decided they needed to do a c-section because we had gone way past the window of time they even like to go and the baby really needed to come out because there was a great danger of infection.

My first three children were all born natural so this was all quite a shock to me! When my water broke with my others, it was a big gush, no doubt about it. You just never know how your labor and delivery will turn out!!! Be prepared for anything!

Good luck!

Re: Can water break slowly?

Just checking on you - yes it can just drizzle - mine did that with my first - would just be tiny little gushes every now and then - and they were tiny little trickles nothing big at all

TMI but one way to tell for sure is to smell it - amniotic fluid has no smell and urine of course does.

Your doc can do a litmus test to see if it's indeed amniotic fluid. BTW, it should smell like "spagetti water" and it does

Re: Can water break slowly?

go BD with your hubby a couple times and make sure you reach O

if you're leaking and close that should stimulate things!

Only problem with that is, if she IS leaking, having anything in there (including DH and his semen) could cause a nasty infection. Although I agree that the big O could get things going. It's just not recommended when the water breaks for infection reasons. Sorry.

Re: Can water break slowly?

I know that is what many Dr.'s say but many midwifes will also tell you its ok - especially really old school

if the water is fully broken then I definitely wouldn't but if it is that tiny of a leak then the odds of anything getting in there -

you can always use a condom and then reach O and get the same effect and not have anything outside introduced then - at least not anything different than a Dr.'s gloved hand would introduce so nothing hurt - only gained if it does trigger contractions.

sigh... I remember the big O.... long, long ago....

Maybe we'll try the condom idea... I'm sick of this guessing!

Re: Can water break slowly?

LOL manna....When my water broke with ds I thought I was just having bladder issues....I actually had him at home bc he came so fast. I started laboring and before I knew it I was throwing up standing over the sink, and when I started to gag, I felt this tiny trickle down my leg, but hey! my bladder had been trickling for a long time

He was born about 20 mins later.

So yes, you can have a slow leak!

And I second the DTD with your hubby@! Dont worry about old Dr's crap...Midwives use this method alot and they have far less complication/infection rate than hospitals and dr's!
