microwave sterilizing??

has anyone sterilized there dipes (prefolds and flats) by putting them in the microwave (kinda like how they do to napkins in restaurants)? i was having a stinky ammonia dipe situation the other day and decided to try it. i thought it was just the microfiber aio that i used, but i put her in a prefold after and it still stunk! so i boiled those dipes then washed and line dried.

i didn't want to wait (lazy chic that i am) for the water to boil and repeat, so i decided to make a short cut and use the microwave. i put a few washed prefolds and microwaved them on high for 2 minutes, rinsed and line dried. seems ok, now. no stinky ammonia smell. just wondering if this could be damaging to my prefolds and should i attempt it with the few fitteds and aio i have?

Hmmm... I think it would be the same. Just with steam? Good question and Idea!

Kind of sounds like a good idea. I had wondered about it. But I would use one snap diaper that you don't love as a test before doing all of your fitteds, AIO's. Just incase the microwave heat damages your snaps.

Re: microwave sterilizing??

did a little research and came up with this site http://www.diaperjungle.com/blog/200...cloth-diapers/

it's listed as a method to strip diapers! good thing cuz i just did all my prefolds and doublers. it was so much easier than boiling them!

Did you use water in a container with the inserts? Or did you just stick the insert in the microwave?

same concept as sanitizing your dish sponge in the microwave. The temperature gets sooo high that it kills bacteria. Just make sure they are wet, dry and they could scorch. Use tongs to take them out as they will be HOT.
