Do OS dipes save money?

Does anyone use OS only, are they truly OS?
We are trying to CD on a budget and I'm wanting to try a little of everything so we can see what is going to work for us.
I figure if we use several OS dipes I could use them for both of my girls and that would save money too.

If you can stick to just using them...I'd say yes.

However...you may not love them and I've never liked the fit on a newborn. I'd say they are better starting from age 3 months and up.....

You could also do fitteds or prefolds with covers or wool...you can make really cheap recycled wool for your kiddos if you can sew.

I wish I could sew...my mom can, but she has yet to make something for me.
I've been using prefolds with covers. I don't have any fitteds yet.
There are so many choices!

Re: Do OS dipes save money?

I use BG 2.0 os on both my boys (well Gavin has been diaper free for a week now YAY!!). I use prefolds during the day with my LO though and just the BG at night or occassionally i'll use the BG when we go out for him. I started them on him when he was about 4 weeks old. And Gavin is about 32lbs. and almost 3 y.o. They were getting a bit snug, but they still fit on him if we needed to put it on.

Here is a pic of Gavin in a BG OS

See? They fit both a new born and a 3 y.o. nicely. If you wanted a trimmer fit for the NB, you could use a small insert but I just use the OS insert. I guess I should also say that my NB was 9 lbs. at birth and about 11lbs in that picture. So I'm sure for really little babies the OS may be too big.

I don't have any pics of Gavin just in a dipe (he has pants on over them) but maybe tomorrow I'll get a pic of him wearing one so I can post it for you.

Re: Do OS dipes save money?

this is what we plan to do after KL0s. I've been stocking up on a couple brands so we can see what works for us the best. I want CDing to be economical too.
good luck

Re: Do OS dipes save money?

DD1 is a heavy wetter, so I'm not sure if fitteds will work for her.
I'm thinking pockets might until she starts PLing...which she is showing very little interest in these days.

DD2 was 15+ lbs about two weeks ago, she is so chuunky so I think the OS will work for her.
I would like them to be as trim as possible so we can still get her clothes on when we go out.

That bg looks like a very nice fit.

Re: Do OS dipes save money?

I agree that if you can stick w/ them, the OS can certainly save money. It is nice to have diapers in the bag that'll fit either too, just adjust snaps/insert for whomever needs it. I started this way, w/ three in cloth. So much easier than keeping up w/ three different diaper sizes!!! My 43lb dd can still squeeze into BG but they velcro may give out. I think they really should last most till potty training!

Re: Do OS dipes save money?

I love our BG os. We use them on our 6mo and our 2.5yo for nights and when we go out. DD was 4mo when we started, and already on the second snaps, so I think they are well worth the money. We are also trying to save money, so I use prefolds/flats with a cover while we are home or for shorter trips.
