What do you think of Exersaucers/walkers?

My kids have used them as babies and DD2 loves hers. Are they dangerous at all? My older kids are fine and have no bowlegs, knock knees, etc. WDYT? TIA!

I think like most baby gadgets, they are fine if used in moderation, and not as a baby storage device. My DD liked her saucer (I'm not comfortable with walkers as they can fall down stairs) and it enabled me to do things like paint doors on our new house with DD close by but safe.

Re: What do you think of Exersaucers/walkers?

we use walkers for both kids and this baby will sue one also. we bought dd an excersaucer and she loved it. neither of my kids are bowlegged or have problems, i think some dr thinks theyre dangerous because some parents just dont take care fo their kids while in them, the walkers as they claim these flip, well they can't flip if your right there with your child like you should be
i had dd's teacher try and tell me when he seen our walker that theyre dangerous and i shouldnt use it, wth, first of all i am NOT a new mom, and i will make the decisions for MY kids!
thats what i told him too, he seems to think he gets a say in what my kids can have and not have, i have gotten upset with him and told him a few times over the past schoolyear.

Re: What do you think of Exersaucers/walkers?

I, personally, am afraid to use a walker as we have stairs that are right in the middle of our living area. We do have an exersaucer, tho, and I have it set up in the kitchen. My DD loves it! She hangs out in there while I cook or do dishes. That's about all she uses it for, tho, so I don't know about the bowleg thing.

I don't have a walker. Just an exersaucer. I don't see many walkers in babystores lately. We got rid of it after DS could walk, thinking we wouldn't have anymore babies.

We have an exersaucer. It has been a life saver for me because I put ds in it and can go pee! But all my kids have only be in there 15 min max at a time because my nickname for it is the poopersaucer. I swear, the biggest poops would happen every time one of them was in it.

Walkers are pretty dangerous, even if you don't have stairs. They can bump into things while in it and rattle their brain, so needless to say, we don't have one and will never own one. We have an exersaucer, but really only used it for 15 minutes a day. DD liked to be able to be out of it. I don't like them used as baby storage devices, but I think they are great when you want to take a shower or cook dinner.

Re: What do you think of Exersaucers/walkers?

we had an exercauser thingy and we used it max 15 minutes per day. I hate to see pics where mamas have babies that are too young to be in there, packed in with pillows and such just to keep them upright. I also heard from our old pediatrician that they can cause bowlegs (sp ) and other issues if a parent does 1 of 2 things. Either leaves them in it too long or doesnt have the height adjusted properly.
I would just rather play on the floor and such with a baby than sitting them in some toy for an extended amount of time.
If a parent only uses them for a very short amount of time like when showering or something, I think they are great. But when it gets to the point wher they spend a combined couple hours in them a day - I thinks its terrible. My ex SIL for one - she would leave her daughter in one at 3 months for an hour at a time propped up with pillows and blankets because she didnt want to "waste" her time, as she would put it, having to hold her or play with her all the time.
If we have another child, I probably wont be buying another one.
