Bf & Teething
My ds is ebf and is almost 9 months old. He is getting his first tooth and doesn't seem to want any solids anymore. He pretty much just started on solids anyway at 7 months and quickly worked up to breakfast and dinner. He absolutely refuses all solids even the ones he loved. He only seems to want bm. I'm fine with it but my dh is freaking out and insists he needs more than just bm. I told him it was probably just his teeth and wants it comes in he will go back to eating the solids again. He wants me to call the ped but they aren't open on weekends. What do you guys think? THey are ok with nothing but bm up until a year right? THanks
Ericka

Re: Bf & Teething
kellymom.com has GREAT info, but it is my understanding that breastmilk is really all that is needed the 1st year. some people skip solids the 1st year completely.

Re: Bf & Teething
I'm guessing he'll be eating solids again in no time, he's probably just uncomfortable from teething...nursing is comforting and nutritious, just make sure you nurse him as long and often as he wants, and keep offering solids so he can have them when he's ready.
Have you tried finger foods at all? My boys "boycotted" mushy/pureed babyfood around 9 months, but really got excited about table/finger food. Cooked peas and corn kernels, cut up ripe banana, strips of wholegrain toast, tofu chunks, cooked potato pieces, basically anything soft and easy to mash up...they really enjoyed feeding themselves at that age. Maybe he'd like to try it?

Re: Bf & Teething
I was going to suggest the same as bethany. Josh is 11 months and teething hard. He also balks at the purees - not sure if it is teething or just boycotting baby foods.
He does like the finger foods though! His favorite by far is chunks of sweet potato.

Re: Bf & Teething
Thanks guys. I have started giving him some finger foods. He eats the toast things from gerber and the little puffs. He also loves pasta of any kind. I'll try giving him some more finger foods. You might be right about boycotting the purees cause everything I try to give him it he hits the spoon but when I give him something from my plate with a spoon he gladly eats it. Thanks
