Did you turn your LO FF in the car at 20# and 1yr?

Up until recently I didn't even realize there was an argument against turning them FF. When my kids weighed 20# I always turned them FF (they were always older than a year by then) because I thought that's just what you did . So I'm curious, did you turn your DC right away or, if not, when?

Nope. He's still RF at 16 months and about 25#, and will stay that way until he's 33# (the RF weight limit on the Britax Marathon.)

DS was well over 20# when he hit a year, I think we turned him pretty shortly after that. We regularily were making 4-7 hour car trips at that time and he was MUCH happier in the car FF. Personally I think you have to find a balance between what is the most absolute safest and what will work best for your family. If your child is perfectly content RF and seems comfortable then I'd leave them.

I didn't w/ #4 & #5, but with my 1st three DS' I did. It wasn't really the law to be BOTH and honestly I was uneducated on the safety of RF and turned them FF thinking it was better for them. Now I know that RFing as long as you can safely go is safer than FF and we chose to go RF until last month at 19mos & 29lbs. We got a new carseat and even with the Sheriff's Dept helping I couldn't get a good solid RFing latch going. So I turned him FF and he's fine with it.
Also remember to switch the shoulder straps to coming from ABOVE the shoulders rather than BELOW when you do switch to FF. That was a big mistake the Sheriff's Dept warned us about.

Nope. After seeing those crash test videos he is staying rear facing until he reaches the wieght limit at 35lbs.

I turned DS FF at a year. He was ~23lbs

ETA: DS's legs were so long I can't imagine being able to keep him RF any longer than he was. But he's still in the center seat because I feel better that way.

And I'm not trying to argue, just clarify, it's not really an arguement per say, but just a miscommunication in general. My Ped recommends that parents turn their children at 1yr & 20lbs but I told her that we would wait until our carseat weigh limit was exceeded b/c of the benefits. It's just safer for an infant to be RF in a collision. I'm sure people have YouTube links up the ying-yang with crash tests showing neck injury to an infant in a FF position vs. a RF position. It's sad and very, very scary! Those videos truly changed my mind.

I did with DS1 and with DS2, but turned DS2 back around. After watching the crash test video, both Dh and I turned him back around. He's still RF @ 28lbs and 2.5yrs. If I could turn my 4yr old I would.

I had no idea there was .....an option? or controversy? (at the time anyway)...and ds1 was 20 lbs long before he was 1. He turned 1 and I turned him (didn't know you weren't supposed to necessarily). Ds2 was turned around when he hit 20 lbs, which was after 1 sometime. They're both ff now at 3.5yo (38lbs & 41") and 23 months (26 lbs & 34.5")
