Re: is anyone here banking their baby's cordblood?

Fantasy Fox, I understand your point though and if we were in your situation we would probably have to do some research and re-evaluate. But so far we have waited until the cord stop pulsing with each of them so we will stick with that if the figures I've seen are correct we have a much better chance of avoiding it all together which I think would be all us mamas first choice!

Re: is anyone here banking their baby's cordblood?
We seriously considered it with ds, but then I consulted with our pediatrician and our midwife and decided not to.
The chances that you will ever use it are very slim (unless you have a family history of the illness they list). However, if we had a lot of disposable income, I still would have done it. But for us, it was too expensive to justify paying for storage since we have NO family history of any of the types of diseases. I say if you can afford it, go for it! What can it hurt?

No.
We wait until the cord is not pulsing as well. And medically speaking I don't think it is a necessity for most families despite the advertisements of all those pricey banks. I would consider donating it.

Re: is anyone here banking their baby's cordblood?
Thanks for the replies mamas
![]() I didn't even know you could donate it until i read about that here. i had ds at the hospital and dd at a birthing center and there cords were cut immediately so i know they didn't let them stop pulsing. this time since we're banking the cord, the dr already knows and i'm to take my kit so the nurse can read through it and let him know how to do it, i was told there are 3 different kits. i know without getting this banked for free, we wouldnt be having it done, it is very expensive and they told us aside form what we have paid, we are still saving over 2K, the reassurance of having it though means alot to us.
