Would you share your homebirth stories/pictures/videos?

DH and I were talking about having a homebirth last night, and he's still very apprehensive. He knows that I'm really leaning toward homebirth or a birth center, and I've convinced him to read Henci Goer's Thinking Woman's Guide.. (which he whined about, but I reminded him that I've been pregnant for 23+ months now, birthed two of his children, yada yada... that turned him around!)

He still says he'd do better with video/pictures, firsthand honest stories, and that stories from the dad's perspective would really help him. And he's not at all into super spiritual crunchiness, like some of the accounts in Ina Mae's books, for example...

If you would share your stories, pics, or links to them , I would be so thankful! Also, if you know where I can find stories from a male perspective, I know he'd like that a lot!

Here's a link to my version of Eliana's birth.

I'll see if J would like to give a 'dad's account'. I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

Re: Would you share your homebirth stories/pictures/videos?

Here's one pic, I don't have the others uploaded onto the computer

We didn't get many pics, things happened too fast

I was in labor for a total of just over three hours!
The midwife only made it to our house with 9 minutes to spare

You CAN do it mama! Tell your dh that if he wants a man's perspective my dh would LOVE to share his side of the story (maybe they can exchange email addresses or something)

Re: Would you share your homebirth stories/pictures/videos?

I can ask my husband if he would. From what I've seen once a man has gone thru a homebirth he's not sure he wants to go back.

I have friends that had troubles with baby breathing, midwife did wonderfully baby never even lost color (they were not troubles from baby being born at home) her dh figures if the baby is not a full 37 weeks next time they should probably go to the hospital but otherwise they are staying home he still preferred home even with the troubles and the transfer.

We were in a group and one man said why would anyone want to have a homebirth and one man said ohhh imagine your wife just gave birth to your 4th daughter and you walk into YOUR kitchen and grab an apple pie and ice cream and sit down to celebrate. To him that sums up the freedom and comfort.

I don't think my husband would let me go to the hospital if I wanted to at this point my midwife would have to be saying it was really necessary. He has seen our son have to have oxygen but I never freaked out because I was with my baby, a part of the process the whole time, not wondering what they were doing to my son over there and if he was gonna be okay.

I have had 4 homebirths and we both wouldn't have it any other way. Talking to a compotent midwife might help him. Then he could ask what she would do if baby is not breathing, if wife is bleeding, etc! He wants to know that both of you are gonna be safe and personally I think your safer at home bar major complications.

I've been meaning to write out some of my birthstories!

Right after she came out..

After both of us had showered and were back in bed..

And I agree with the PPs, we had our first child at home and our second at a hospital and we wouldn't go back. My husband loves homebirths and is a super supporter of it...He loves birthing his own children!!

Sarah, I watched your video when you first posted, and I bawled! SO beautiful, thank you for sharing it again.

Rachel. I LOVE that picture. I would really appreciate it if your hubby would write out his thoughts. You could even just PM it to me here or something. My DH doesn't even have his own email account,

Crissi, 4 homebirths! Please do share your wisdom and knowledge, woman!

Re: Would you share your homebirth stories/pictures/videos?

DH was not liking the idea of homebirth at first. He became more comfortable after meeting with the midwife and other homebirthing families. After our awesome experience having our second son at home, he wouldn't have it any other way!
