Rash and Fever in 4m old??

Ok there is baby girl I watch during the week.. She is 4m old, and EBF, her mom pumps during the day, so I have bottles to feed her... Well last week, her mother and i noticed she was puney (SP) and that she was napping alot.. I thought it was either Teething cause she had just broke on tooth, or she was going through a growth spurt, then realized she is running a temp of 102.0 so her mom and I monitored that for wens, thur, fri. All days the temp ranged from 99-101 raising more in the middle of the day. Well her mom just called and said that she wont be coming over today, she had broke out in a rash all over her body!!!!! So what could this be?????

Jayden my son has not showed any kind of sympthoms, so I dont think its contagious.....

Roseola? Pityriasis Rosea? Or...I think this is the way the pedi explained it....some kids react differently to certain things...and for some kids, they get rashes like that with a virus, any virus.

I was thinking a virus??? Her mom said she would call me once she knows from Pedi so if it is contagious I can watch Jayden (DS) for sympthoms.... Its a real bummer I hate when babies are sick..

If the fever broke and then the rash developed, it sounds like roseola.

yep! Roseola is going around here like crazy! Your kids were exposed so if they start with a fever, that is most likely what it is for them too.

Yup Roseola. It is VERY contagious, and like most rashy type virus's they are contagious BEFORE the rash breaks. So your LO will probably get it to

How long does it take incubation period???? Cause it was last wen, thurs, and friday that she had a fever, and she is not here today.... So I am wondering when to expect a fever from DS????

I keep him away from her most of the day, so I hope maybe he wont catch it.... And I sanitize our house daily... So who knows... He is acting fine, and does not have a fever yet... We will see.. If anyone knows the incubation period let me know!

http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-a...Topic-Overview

http://www.drgreene.com/21_1173.html --> Says incubation is 5-15 days

C&P from above link:

Is it contagious?
Once people have been infected with HHV-6 or HHV-7, the virus typically stays in their bodies for the rest of their lives. Antibodies prevent them from getting sick again themselves, but they can infect others. Most infected adults have the viruses in their saliva. Children typical get roseola from close exposure to caregivers who are themselves well—not from being around sick children or adults. Once exposed, the incubation period is 5 to 15 days.

Ditto the others, sounds like Roseola. Jack did fine with it when he had it. The fever time was the worst and he was just a bit grumpier than usual. Once the rash broke out, he was fine.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.
