washing Crankypants?

My DS was wearing a pair of Crankypants shorties yesterday afternoon and some of the blue dye from them dyed the fitted he was wearing. What am I going to do when I have to wash them? Won't the darker colors bleed and ruin the lighter colors? (they are green and blue)

Re: washing Crankypants?

I have a pair of the sock monkey shorties and I haven't had any bleeding issues so far with the red or anything, although I got them off FSOT so they had probably been washed some before they came to me. I have washed them three times already and no problems though??? Bummer though!

I've heard somewhere that scented wool wash might make colors runs more? Perhaps you might want to wash them in unscented?

That makes me nervous.... I'll never wash mine, I'll be too scared!

I have washed mine and not had any problems. But there is a way to set the dye. It involves vinegar and the microwave, but I don't know exactly how to do it. Do a search and you should find the instructions.

Hm, I've never heard of color running problems before! I saw a pair of hand dyed red run on Cascade Eco (the blue monster and monkey ones with the runny red mouth) before I knew it did that, but that's the only time Which pair do you have? If they are my regular merino you really shouldn't have a problem. I even hand felt that yarn sometimes for bags and the color doesn't run with all the scrubbing with Dawn and hot water. I suppose there is always the fluke though. Let me know how it goes!

Any other Crankypants mamas have advice who have well loved/washed longies?

ETA: I hope this didn't come off as being defensive, lol, this kind of thing freaks me out just as much as the mama about to wash If my yarn color starts running I'm in big trouble!

I was thinking now, after reading this, that I shouldnt have put the name Crankypants in the post at all. I could have just said, a pair of my wool shorties..I totally didnt want to single you out in any way at all. I LOVVVVE your stuff (just wish it was easier to get ).
The ones I have are from the alligator set from Feast. The polka dotted alligator appliqued shirt, and the 'bluegrass' colorway shorties.

Ahhhhhhhhhh! That is BFL that was hand dyed by an awesome WaHMama. That yarn was so delicious to knit but I don't have experience with washing it. Let me pm her and ask if she has any super secret advice for you and I'll get back to you

Re: washing Crankypants?

I PMed you, mama!

Also, don't feel back about using "crankypants" instead of saying just "shorties". I never would have known you were talking about those shorties or been able to contact the yarn mama for tips if you did, though I appreciate you not wanting to "call me out", lol. Thanks! I hope her advice works for you
