Re: Foreskin: To Keep or Not to Keep

Another ditto to bamamom. Elliot is intact.
When I first told DH that I didn't want to circumsize he thought I was crazy. However, once he really thought about it he agreed with me that there was no reason to do it besides "looks." And I'm of the same opinion--more and more moms are choosing to leave their sons intact. I don't think our sons will be that much in the minority by the time anyone else is old enough to notice.
After he was born, both DH and I were *so* glad we made that choice. We couldn't have imagined putting him through that.

My son is intact. It was never a question in our minds about what we would do (or not do in this case).

Re: Foreskin: To Keep or Not to Keep

We are Jewish and it is part of the religious culture to circumcise on the 8th day to bring the male child into the tribe.

Both my boys are circ'd. If we have another boy, he will be, too.

Re: Foreskin: To Keep or Not to Keep

We were going to until the day of the attp., and I just couldn't do it. The more I read about it, the more I decided that it's not like it's a deformity or something. Beside, if that many people are seeing it, then we have bigger problems we need to discuss! LOL I thought my midwife was going to throw him a party though, she was so pleased!

yeah, what bamamom and everyone else said. If it ain't broke, why fix it? And cause pain and trauma to a baby in the process, just for the sake of making it look more like other people's penises.

Re: Foreskin: To Keep or Not to Keep

I don't think I've ever given it much of a thought, to be honest with you. Than again, I have three girls so it's not come up (no pun intended).

But I think if our next child(ren) are of the male persuasion, they'll be circ. Don't ask what the specific reasoning would be but I don't have a problem with it, I doubt DH will so I see this as the lesser of all things to have to worry about during labor/delivery and there after.

I know of a good mix of mama's that have boys... both circ and un-circ.

I do have to say I find the argument of "If God put it there, why snip it?" a bit funny because the same could be said about sterilization... If God put it there, why snip it? (Ok, I'm the thread hijacker... just chalk it up to that and the fact that it's now going on 1130pm and I'm still up and so tired I can't sleep. )

DS is intact. It wasn't even a discussion in our home...

Re: Foreskin: To Keep or Not to Keep

We left ds the way he came (perfect!).
It was a big argument when I was pg, dh wanted it done, I refused. But once he was here, I don't think even dh could have made the decision to have it done. He practically passed out when ds got a shot of antibiotics in the hospital.
