Re: Foreskin: To Keep or Not to Keep

I don't have a son, but before we knew the gender of this baby we really thought it was a boy and were discussing circumcision a great deal. My husband, being raised in a very conservative/traditional family was all for circumcision, both for supposed medical reasons and appearance. He just felt that the NORM was circumcised, and he didn't want his son to look different than anyone else.
I didn't have a preference, seeing as I never had brothers and such things wernt really the topic of coversation in our home. However, I started picking through literature out of curiosity.
All the medical reasons people give as to why can intact penis is so "unhealthy" or "unhygenic" have pretty much been disproven. Recently even the statistic about a higher rate of cancer in men with intact penis' has been disproven and confounded by the Cancer Association.
So, those things along with the fact that I think it's RIDICULOUS that the United States is really the only country that pushes circumcision on baby boys, coupled with the fact that God obviously put foreskin there for a reason.....well, we decided that if and when we have a son, he will definately be left intact.
Why mess with perfection?

I do not want to circ any boys we may have. Dh is just as adamant that we will circ them. I talked to both our mothers and my grandma and all made me feel so horrible for thinking about not doing it. So long story short...we will be circing any son we may have. My Grammie acually said to me that she hopes I dont' have a son if I'm not going to circ him.

Ds is circ'ed. For us it was a no-brainer. We had a close family member with issues in his 40's and had to be circ'ed at that time. It was awful and he nearly dies.

I think that is cool. It is a VERY important part of being Jewish. I prefer not to argue about it though. We had our son's circumcision performed by a mohel(specially trained) and my son didn't even cry when he did it. There were lots of blessings and prayers in the house that day.

I can't imagine why anyone can choose to circumcise barring medical or religious reasons. I just don't get it. I am very outspoken against it.

Our first baby was a delivery room surprise girl...and praise God! because we never even discussed this issue. Our second baby was an "accidental peek at the ultrasound at just the wrong time" boy so we had some time to research and work out the issue. DH was very against leaving DS intact until I provided him with lots of internet research...now he's 100% on board for intact sons. I have to say I'm very blessed with a DH who's very willing to listen to reason and lots of research.

I am not Jewisw (though some of my family from way back were) but this would be the only way I would do it if I did. My older boys are both circ and it was done by a Dr. Well as a young mom I just assumed it had to be done. Well years later I worked in a hospital and saw a circumsision and almost fainted inthe room!!! It was the worst thing ever!!! so never again.

We circ'd mainly for religious reasons, and it really had never entered my mind to not do it.
