OMG. This hurts and I want to cry.

I thought my milk had leveled out and that I was finally done being engorged. Oh no. Hell no. I woke up last night with rocks for a left breast again. Now my right breast is so full that it hurts to the touch. And Sophia just "drained" them not too long ago.

I suppose I might be nursing TOO much. Someone smack me and remind me that just because she's crying and wants to suck on something the boob is not always the tool to use (she won't touch binkies at all - I've tried some).

I'm going to go give my boobs a hot bath now. *whimper* This hurting boobs thing makes me crankier than hell.

Ouch, I remember that. She's three weeks old, right? She's hit her first growth spurt mamma. She'll be nursing a lot (and crying a lot) because of that. You may be a little overstimulated right now but it should level out in the next day or so. In the meantime, I'd pump or express off enough that it doesn't hurt so bad and use a cold compress, not heat. It gets better, I swear! I tell everyone that wants to try bfing that the first 6weeks is the hardest and then it's a breeze from there. Hang in there, I know you can do it!

I've struggled with over-supply too and I remember that feeling. Pump just enough to feel comfortable if you need to but don't get in a habit of pumping or else you will continue to over-produce. My supply has calmed down a lot now and we are doing great. Hang in there!

you will even out soon mama, anytime your engorged what helps is get a handtowel and wet it in hot water, put it into the micro and then when it comes out it will feel hot to touch, let it rest on your boobs til it cools off, this is what i did with ds and dd to releive the engorment. also hot showers help a lot too

Sophia is so lovely!

Here's my from experience. Massage the areas that hurt as she nurses. My Lac specialist also said you can nurse hovering over your LO to let gravity help (didn't work for me). Ice the cold spot after nursing if it still hurts-heat increases milk supply. HTH-it'll get better. Just watch out for it to not turn into mastitis.

Cold cabbage leaves in the bra helped me with #2 - the cold feels good, and I think there's something chemically with the cabbage that helps, too. Pumping a little also helped, just to soften them up enough for baby to get a good latch (and get a good frozen stash started).

It really does get better.

Re: OMG. This hurts and I want to cry.

I'm sorry you're having a hard time mama!! Try not to blame yourself (thinking that you're feeding her too much). 3 week old babies really do nurse a lot and you shouldn't feel that you need to hold her back. However, I know how bad that hurts and as the PP's said, it does get better! Hot showers helped me. I'd get them warm enuff to let down and just let it go. It helped relieve the pressure, but not so much as to stimulate me to make more milk. GL mama!!
