Re: How to: Fixing the leg elastic on a FB

This. thread. rocks. Here is my $.02 after doing three dipes, BGOS 2.0 specifically...

I cut my slits first. I do both legs so that they are somewhat even.
I *don't* cut my elastic to length before threading it through. I just thread the loose end.
I sew down the loose end, snip off the pin and close up the hole.
I stretch-and-gather until the leg looks the way I want it. I go from about 6" flat (from cut to cut) to 4" gathered, if that makes sense.
I stitch down the other end of the elastic BEFORE I cut it to length. Then once it's sewn, I can snip it and not have any waste.

Last but not least, I estimate that I use about 4" of elastic (unstretched) per leg, plus the 1/2" or so that I trim off the pinned end. For those of you that are ordering online, figuring a foot of elastic per diaper will give you more than enough. FWIW, I'm using ordinary 1/4" Walmart elastic. I put my first repair job on DS as soon as it was finished, and nothing has popped yet.

Re: How to: Fixing the leg elastic on a FB

I just replaced the elastic in one really old white fb and a newer beautiful teal colored one. Both of these I got a great deal on FSOT. I can't wait to put these into rotation! I am glad I found this. It saved me from running my noisy sewing machine while everyone sleeps. Thanks!

Re: How to: Fixing the leg elastic on a FB

As soon as I buy elastic, I'm going to try this out on 3 BG 2.0s that I purchased on FSOT that were shot. Seemed like they were a good deal, but I guess that was the catch. I'm really glad someone directed me to this thread!

I don't have any Fuzzi Bunz, I use Bumgenius. But that was very helpful to some mamas that do I'm sure!

ok so i just did 2 a wonderworks and a BG 2.0 AIO. However when I sew them up you can see where I sewed it. Do you ladies have this problem too? I don't care if you can see it, but I'm just curious if you have a tip for sewing it(by hand) where it is less noticable. Thanks.

How do you know how tight you want the elastic? Do you take out the old stuff and measure and just make the new stuff shorter??? =P
