Re: How To: Dye Using Dylon in Sink

Love the tutorial!! I bought some dye yesterday but I haven't been brave enough to try it yet. I needed this thread.

I've heard people mention soda ash or washing soda. I take it you don't need it?

You don't need baking soda with the Dylon. Joann's online has LOTS more colors than I've ever seen in the store. I do find they run though, mine did for a few washes.... And the blue ones I did for some reason faded over time but they still look great!

I know nothing at all about dying fabric especially pf. can you still use them as a dipe, is there a chance they will irritate the baby? or are they just for decorating a burp rag? will they bleed at all after you color and wash them?

Re: How To: Dye Using Dylon in Sink

Well, I put my diapers through a cold soak and than dried them in th dryer again and this time they came out nice and fluffly. I think that maybe I did not have all the soap rinsed out the first time since I only washed two diapers. So now I can't wait to dye the rest of them.

As long as you rinse and rinse them until the water runs clear and then wash them, they shouldn't irritate your baby's skin. My DD has eczema, and she isn't bothered by the dyes at all.

I've heard that they do bleed a little the first couple of times you wash them, so I would wash them separately until they don't bleed anymore.

HTH!

I am washing my first two batches of dyed pfs now. I used my white sink w/o any staining at all. LMK if you want the brand to make sure yours will be OK too.

Re: How To: Dye Using Dylon in Sink

I just did a bunch like this last week! I love them. Instead of rinsing them in the sink, I plopped them in the washer and ran a short cycle on cold with no soap. I figured if people dye theirs in the washer, I can rinse mine there with no problem. It worked great.

I did this, too. It took me several rinses to get the water clear, though.
