figureing out prefolds while waiting on baby...
i don't have any dolls that are newborn size...so i was just decided that i was going to have to figure out this prefold thing once baby was here. i've known the different folds, i just couldn't envision a baby inside of it or anything. well i finally had a brainstorm and though duh! i have a couple premium prefolds and a small 3 year old! so i had him lay down and figured it out! it seems (based off him) that i'll have the most luck with the bikini twist and reverse angel fold (i think it's called lol). i got them so nice and snug on him!!! it didn't even take very long to figure it out snappi and all! those things are super duper stretchy! so i'm very excited to throw a prefold on this new little guy when he gets here!

Re: figureing out prefolds while waiting on baby...
i word of caution ... I at least have trouble with even semi solid poo escaping my bikini twists ... sometimes even we have trouble keeping all the front in if he is going coverless.... so I might just be bikini twist impaired
also its a lot easier with the baby to do the folds LOL

Re: figureing out prefolds while waiting on baby...
i can't imagine it being any easier!!! of course my 3 year old co-operated VERY well lol, he just laid there and let me do what i wanted to do haha.
i was wondering if poo would escape the bikini fold....that was my first thought on it the first time i ever saw it lol. i figured we'd use the reverse angel the most.

Re: figureing out prefolds while waiting on baby...
I must be doing something wrong with my bikini fold because my ds's bits and pieces always are peeking out one side or the other.....
I better try it again tomorrow. |

Re: figureing out prefolds while waiting on baby...
With one or two explosive exceptions, the bikini twist has held everything in for us. I didn't start using it until DD was a little older (around 10 mos) but I found it depends upon where you twist. When I get the skinny part of the twist a little higher, I found that I get the "pocket" right and it works the best.
Good luck! A lot of CDing will be trial and error with your baby and works for both you and him (or her.) **Don't forget a good cover!**

Re: figureing out prefolds while waiting on baby...
jackie what i ended up doing during my practice run on my 3 year old for the bikini was laying out the whole pf flat, laying him on it THEN twisting it and bringing it between his legs. voila! nice and snug!
he's potty trained though so i can't really say how well it would hold up since i was just practicing fold on him, not really seeing how they hold up. but it was quite snug and i couldn't see that it would leak anything out.

Re: figureing out prefolds while waiting on baby...
The angel fold works great for us so far. My little boy is four weeks old.
What is a "reverse" angel fold? Don't you want the "stacked" layers to be in the front? Or am I envisioning that wrong? Also--do you know if you're having a girl or a boy? I think that makes a difference, because with a girl, you will want the most absorbent area to be right at the bottom, whereas with a boy, you will want it higher up since they pee "out" (sorry). ETA: p.s...Fabulous brainstorm, using your live "doll" as a diaper model!

Re: figureing out prefolds while waiting on baby...
i'm not really sure why it was called the reverse angel fold...i'm not sure what the "regular" one is lol. but yes, you're envisioning it wrong.
basically instead of leaving the area completely stacked you "smooth" it out persay. you hook your thumbs into the "pockets" the layers create and fan it out. for all i know that's how the regular one works..i dunno. i can't even remember which website i saw it on. we're having a boy! 3 boys...this will be an active house in a couple years lol.
