paranoia sets in

well, you would think after nursing 5 children I should know this by now. How much should a just now 3 month old should be eating. she certainly doesn't look underweight but I see other bf babies her age and they blow her out of the water. just wanting to see how often everyone else is nursing at 3 months
thanks

Re: paranoia sets in

My DS was pretty consistent at eating every 2 hours when he was 3 months old. He was like this from the time he was born until 6 mos or so. Now at 8.5 mos he eats every 3 hours (still usually 7x per day). I am sure your DD is fine, every baby is different. Everyone kept telling me to anticipate the cluster-feeding and non-stop nurse-a-thons during growth spurts - neither of these happened with my DS, every day was the same lol.

Re: paranoia sets in

I think they are supposed to be eating at least 6 times a day from 2-4 months. I'll go check my sources, lol! Posted it wrong initially (it's really 6). These are the stats from www.mother-2-mother.com.

Re: paranoia sets in

My little guy ate every 2-2.5 hours, with an ocassional 4-hour stretch at night. He cluster fed in the evenings, and usually had 8 nursing sessions a day. The best way to check input is output! How many wet/soiled diapers does she give you?

Re: paranoia sets in

My DS nursed once every three hours when he was three months old. Around four months, he transitioned to once every four hours.

Re: paranoia sets in

thanks mamas! She has alot of output but she nurses about every 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hrs. I guess I would lean more the 3 1/2. things are crazy around here at times and it is hard to keep track. why is it that it seems everyone else has things under control and a I don't? hum

Mama, I don't have it all under control and I only have 4 kiddos. Pat yourself on the back! I'm sure you've got it all under control enough!

Sounds like she's getting enough. As for size, every baby is different. All my girls were/are ebf. My first dd was so fat, she looked like she was the Michelin Man's dd. My second was 7lbs 6oz at birth and has always been very petite and skinny. Now I have another little fat mama.

If you're having trouble keeping track, get one of those tiny little pocket-sized notebooks and write down the time every time you nurse. That's what I did with both of my little ones, and it worked great.
