Steph, I've conceived 3 times while breastfeeding a toddler. 2 at 18 months pp and the other was 20 months pp. My cycles don't return until 13-18 months pp.

I would really recommend that you begin charting. Get Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Wexler (sp?). It will tell you everything you need to know to start (and lots more). 2 months of charting will give you a good idea if you're annovulatory or if your cycles are just sporadic.

We conceived this last baby once I realized (through charting) that my luteal phase was too short to get pregnant. I saw a naturopath for herbs that I took for 3 weeks, which lengthened the luteal phase enough to get pregnant.

Charting is invauable to figure out what's going on with *your* body.

I did. DD was 10 months oldish when I conceived. I'm really not sure yet, just because I have no idea how far along I am. It was a complete surprise though, so I'm not sure how much help I am.

I didn't get AF back until 15 months post partum, so it's been about 5 months.

***fingers crossed*** Today is day 16. I has some fertile mucus on day 14 and then dry again for two days. But we're having lots of sex anyway just to be sure. DH is happy!

Even an irregular sleeping temp is better than not temping at all. My sleeping isn't that great either. Every morning I'd grab that thermometer and walk the 15 steps to the couch (no peeing or anything else) and temp. It's not the best way to do it because you're supposed to lay still after at least 4 hours of sleep, etc.... BUT it was consistent for me because I did the same thing every day. Sometimes it was at 5:30am, sometimes at 7:30am or 8. Use Fertilityfriend.com to keep track. It takes all the work out of charting, it's free AND it's fun to watch your cycles. I have 3 of my conceived babies still on there so that I can compare their charts. It's fun for me to see!

I was ebf my dd at 4 months...no af...just bfp....shocker!!!

i did! i was also taking the BFing pill. taking that might help you to get regular. im BFing and using whole milk, i am 9weeks pregs and DD is 10 1/2 mth old!

I have the Art of Natural Family Planning, which is another excellent book much like Tony Wexler's book. We're Catholic and do not use birth control, so I used to chart a lot when we were trying to avoid. Since DD was born we just kinda wing it, although now we really want to conceive. I should really crack that book open again and see what it says about post-partum conception. I don't know if my temps will be regular enough to tell me anything, so I've been watching mucus signs. DD wakes me up at roughly the same time everyday, but she's usually woken me up and hour or two before that as well. I seem to remember 3 hours of sleep was best for accurate temp readings??

That is true, but I figure that I just do my best to get a good reading every day. For the most part if you only get those chunks of sleep at a time, it's at least consistent.

The fluid signs will not tell you if you're truly ovulating or not, which is why you need to temp IMO. You could still have mucus that seems fertile, but if you don't ovulate, it won't do you any good, kwim?

DD is 6 mths old, no af yet. I do not use hormonal birthcontrol so we figure codoms are our only way of preventing another little one right now. I HATE condoms! So does your body still she signs of cycling that are chartable if you have not had af yet?

I conceived while breastfeeding my second. I didn't have a period but was on the minipill for about 6 months. My little one was around 14 months when we conceived and was still nursing multiple times a day and during the night. I came off the pill and a couple of weeks later, I get a positive pregnancy test. Complete shock considering I was showing no signs of ovulation, a period, and I was still breastfeeding. We were trying, but not being serious about it. I wasn't temping or anything. I kind of miss my period, I haven't had it since becoming pregnant with my second (April 2005). Heh. :P
