Trivisol?
Our pediatrician said that all BF babes should take trivisol drops every day since they don't get enough vit D. Is there another way to increase vit D without the drops? My DD is 2 mos so she is not taking solids yet
Anyone else hear of this?

Re: Trivisol?
Yeah. Your breastmilk is perfect and exactly what your DD needs. Just make sure she is getting lots of sunshine and she'll make her own vit D. If you want to give the drops to your babe, I don't think it would hurt her.

Re: Trivisol?
My ped recommended this as well. We haven't done it. DS is outside A LOT right now, getting plenty of sunshine, and frankly, he has to take zantac 3x/day which tastes awful, and I'm not sure he'd tolerate anything else. DS#1 took vitamins sometimes as an infant, but spit most of it out. They make a stinky mess. I'll ask again at his 4 month appt coming up.

Re: Trivisol?
I bought the drops, but we haven't taken them yet. DD is out with me every day walking so she gets some sun. I'm just wary about putting "stuff" in her...

How does your doctor imagine the human race survived before Trivisol?
![]() Edited to add: In other words, I think that's ridiculous and your doctor is uneducated. |

Re: Trivisol?
Our doc suggested them too. I used them in the winter, but now I don't mess with them. I feel like we're in the sun enough. Do what feels right to you!

Re: Trivisol?
Yeah - I did think it was a little strange to supplement "the perfect food" and wondered
about that. I do need to do some more research on this vit D thing.

Re: Trivisol?
With my first child, the ped said it wasn't necessary (lived in TX). With my second, they recommended the drops. We live in NJ now.
Breastmilk doesn't contain the recommended daily allowance of vitamin D - according to the AAP. According to the Le Leche League, it is a matter of sunlight deficiency, not a deficiency in the milk. The problem with that, is they are now recommending limiting exposure to sunlight in infants and children -and- there may have been a rise in rickets. I held off on the Tri-vi-sol since we were heading into the summer months. I had every intention of starting him on tri-vi-sol starting in the fall, BUT he ended up being slightly anemic and needing the Poly-Vi-Sol with iron. Read up on what the American Academy of Pediatrics says about it as well as what the Le Leche League says, then make your decision http://search2.aap.org/search?site=S...amin+d&x=0&y=0 http://search.llli.org/site/apps/s/g...=llli_frontend
