Nevermind, taken care of

I have some items a mama in Canada is possibly interested in. I found out the cost of shipping first class and it is not much more than shipping here in the States.

So, how can I protect myself should the package go missing since I have read such problems in these threads?

I know that I can't get DC with 1st class shipping so what can I get it with and how much more does that usually cost?

How long does it typically take for an item to get to BC from say, VA?

What else do I need to think about before I send this off? The mama doesn't have any feedback, but I have sold to other mamas without feedback, just none in Canada.

You can't get DC to Canada, it's really expensive. Us Canadian mamas realize that. Usually it takes approx 2 weeks for something to arrive from the US, but I've had things take a month before, and other times it takes a week. But avg is 2 weeks. Just make sure you fill out a customs form when you ship. You can take a picture of the package at the post office if you want extra security to prove you shipped it, but I've never had any issues with packages not arriving.

Thanks! I shipped the package off today. I have the receipt, hopefully the customs number can be used should there be a problem.

Re: Nevermind, taken care of

For future mailings out of the country, there's a new service called certificate of mailing that costs $1.05. When I spoke to a paypal rep a couple of weeks ago before I shipped an expensive package to Australia, they told me that they WOULD accept that in lieu of a delivery confirmation number for international mailing.

Man, I wish I had known about that! I asked the postal worker about insurance and DC and I couldn't afford the prices for either. He did say that they (the PO) can track items through the customs form he scanned but I couldn't.

Thanks for the tip. That was great info!
