what can i take for ummmmm (TMI maybe?)

constipation.....i haven't gone good for a few (if not more) weeks now. for a while it wasn't too bad...at least SOMETHING was coming out a few times a day. then i had a few really bad days then finally went again. then drinking diet coke seemed to help. well now it's been about 3 or 4 days and very little has come out and i can tell i need to go. i forgot to tell my dr about it yesterday b/c i was more concerned about other things.
so what can i take for this and please don't say prune juice b/c it's just not going to happen! i've been eating tons of plums...don't know if that's supposed to help but it hasn't for what its worth lol.

Okay the long term fix is more fiber and lots of water. Dried fruit, berries, melon, veggies, apples, oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat bread. To help right now, get some flax seed oil from the health food store, take a tablespoon a day. It is a good source of essential fatty acids, plus it's a laxative. It doesn't taste great, I would mix it in flavored yogurt or a smoothie. Good luck!

*hugs* good luck hun! I had that problem after Xander was born, and mix that with a hemroid that I got from labor...ouch! There were times I thought I was going to pass out from the pain. Luckily, it just kind of corrected itself. Sorry I don't really have any advice!

Yup, LOL any dried fruit would probably help if any of it sounded good. I think my doc's list does have things like Metamucil on it. Most of those are just fiber and OK to take. You could also just call tomorrow and double check. Say if you decided to get something, just call and confirm with them that they don't care.

Plain pineapple juice will REALLY get things going and fast! When I was PG and got stopped up, that stuff ALWAYS got things moving. Drink up mama!

My dr list had colace on it.....I'll never do that again! I was crying from the pain, I didnt leave the toilet for hours, seriously! I'm surprised I didnt go into preterm labor....
Try the flax oil first, and pineapple juice.....Can you do an enema?

My obgyn list that i just recieved Monday says for constipation these are safe: Metamucil, Fibercon tablets, Milk of Magnesia, & Dulocolax suppositories (occasionally)

Hope you find something that helps!!

Re: what can i take for ummmmm (TMI maybe?)

Yeah, I used Metamucil during my first pregnancy and postpartum too and it was a real life saver. The wafers they sell are good, but I used the mix too. It keeps you regular AND helps keep hemrroids at bay - two things I really needed. I'm already using it again for this pregnancy just to be on the safe side. I only had to eat 2 wafers a day to keep things smooth, so it's not a crazy amount or anything.

HTH!

Re: what can i take for ummmmm (TMI maybe?)

My miracle cure while pg has been avacados. Mangos & papayas are great too, but being diabetic, I have the additional issue of trying not to add extra sugar from fruit/fruit juice to my diet.

Good luck.
