DHs lunch, need ideas

I really want to start packing DH a lunch. Otherwise he grabs Wendys (which is only a few dollars, but still) or doesnt eat. To give you a run down: he works for Scott's Lawn Care and starts work at 8am and does not have a set lunch time or a set get off work time. He drives to the houses, sprays the lawns, then drives to another and repeats. When hes done he goes back to the office- calls the next days people and clocks out and comes home.

So... What are some things i can pack that he can eat and go and keep in a thermos or cooler? (he cant drive all the way back to the office to eat). I know basic sandwhiches (PB&J) but i also know Ham, may not do so good after so long in a cooler in the hot sun.

help

Wow, so you have to do all cold lunches, since he can't heat up left-overs.

OK, I'm gonna skip over the whole sandwhich thing since that gets boring pretty fast.

How bout salads? Like regular salad with lettuce, then you're side dish type salads. Pasta salad, macaroni salad, potato salad.

How 'bout pita or wrap type sandwiches for a change.

Watermellon slices?

I'm out of ideas. I'll post more later if I think of anything.

Dh gets whatever ds is bringing to school/camp. Get one of those large freezer packs and put it right with the sandwich. They stay good for hours. Along with a sandwich I give him a variety of snacks and he's good to go. Also fruit salads are great and if you put it in a sealed container you can put some ice right in it.

those are great ideas! yeah he cant heat up anything- although the 90o sun may. he took the left over meatloaf and told me he ate it on the way to work which means i need to make up a huge batch of pancakes so he will have breakfest too. LOL.

thanks for the ideas.

Make chili, if you put it in a thermos it will stay warm all day. Pack cornbread for him to dip it in.

I was going to say chili also...my DH did that a lot. Also, chowders, and remember that whatever you made for dinner the night before, he can SUPER heat up before leaving for work and put in a thermos, too. Like chicken and rice casserole, or even lasagna...it doesn't sound like it looks nice or anything but it's food, and it's warm.
