Re: HELP! Urgent BABY NAME HELP!
My mom spelled my name Tarah instead of Tara and I've had it misspelled my WHOLE life! I liked that it was different, but it sucks when your own grandmother or aunt can't spell your name correctly! Also, I always hated when my sister Heather could buy those cool name items (pencils, keychains, etc.) and there was never anything with my name spelled correctly on it. JMO
Either way, your child will be fine. LOL

Re: HELP! Urgent BABY NAME HELP!
It would be easier on her if it was spelled the traditional way, but it won't be a big deal to use a y instead of i. People always spelled my name Rena instead of Rina, and some of my relatives still do. It's not that big of a deal to me, but it could be to your daughter.

Re: HELP! Urgent BABY NAME HELP!
I wouldn't do it. She will always be spelling her name for people, and it will be a total PITA.
Also, I don't find the Abigayle spelling nearly as attractive as the traditional Abigail. It just looks off to me. -Betsy

Re: HELP! Urgent BABY NAME HELP!
I think no matter which spelling you go with, someone will always spell it wrong. I'm always correcting people with my name..and it's always spelled different ways (it's not always misspelled the same way, there are many combinations!).
You should go w/ whichever spelling you and your dh like Be it Abigayle or Abigail

Re: HELP! Urgent BABY NAME HELP!
I'm another person who grew up having to spell my name for everyone....and still having it spelled incorrectly half the time. So I always vote for the "traditional" spelling.

Re: HELP! Urgent BABY NAME HELP!
Yes, I'm ducking...
I don't like the screwy letters thing. I think it is a huge fad and will fade out leaving a generation of kids with scewy names. I can see in twenty years people going "oh, lots of y's in their name, they must've been born around 2007". I think, if you are going to mess with a name, make it more simple rather than more complex. The idea of switching a bunch of i's to y's in a name to be unique isn't unique anymore. It is also WAY confusing to many. We simplified my daughter's name, Savana. Good thing too, because there is a Savannah, Hannah, and Dayanna in her class this year. I don't dislike Abigayle, but I do not bond well with all of the extra y's floating around just for effect. That is just me though... |

Re: HELP! Urgent BABY NAME HELP!
Yes, I think I agree w/ Betsy. I'm always having to spell my name, and could never find anything on it w/ my name spelled correctly (you know, on vacation, pens, keychains, etc.), which was always disappointing to me as a little child. As an adult, it's not a big deal, but in general I prefer traditional spellings to modified ones. Good luck w/ your section!

Re: HELP! Urgent BABY NAME HELP!
it's your child...if you like it, she won't know the difference. I know tons of little girls spelt Abigayle. My name is Sophia and not only can people not SPELL it right they can't even pronounce it correctly half the time too!
