Can you lactate while preggo?

I ask this for a variety of reasons... I feel the need to help others, and give some positive meaning in life. And also wanted to know if i do start producing now, would it somehow affect my baby in utero, or HER milk supply.

Im leaking enough now to probably bottle up, but no pump yet. If i got a pump, would there be a chance of actually producing milk?

I'm a little unclear about your question but yes you can bf through pregnancy as long as your pregnancy is healthy

I'm not sure since your not actively BFing right now but it'd be worth a try Right now Im thinking you'd just produce colostreum. Thats very sweet of you to do that though!

PUmping can bring on contractions and is used as a labor stimulator, so if you have a history of preterm labor, I definitely wouldn't do it. Seeing as you aren't nursing now, I wouldn't take up pumping at this point.

I agree...alot of nipple stimulation will bring on early labor I THINK bfing while pg can do the same if you have a history of premature labor. HUGS! When you have your baby though, you could pump (most mommas have ALOT more milk than they need in the beginning) and donate that. You'll have alot of milk in the beginning until your supply levels out.

i don't know... ? i know the placenta detaching from the uterus signals the body to start producing milk not just colostrum so??? i think i'd just wait and not do ANYTHING to possibly jeopardize bfing your baby.

but it's grea to be thinking of donating. i'm a donor and it's REWARDING

I agree, if you want to catch the colostrum that leaks, you could do that. A bottle of that would do sooo much good for a LO. What I've heard is that most women can't actually bf and produce milk during pg...something about the milk ducts perforating or something? Its been a while since I read it...it might have been on kellymom.com. I was still bfing ds a lot while I was pg, but my milk went away completely by 16 weeks. I got colostrum back at 21-22 weeks, and he kept nursing that a few times a day.
