Re: Have to cancel the birthday party!!

first decide how much you can spare and make a list of what you need.

cake & icing (2 boxes) $5
for drinks, serve kool aid $1

now what I would do is catch some chips on a sale and pick up the cheapest salsa I could find. Id go to the 99 cent store and pick up a pack of baloons, some blue streamers, maybe a table cloth. plates and cups Or even ask someone if they have any saved decor, freecycle maybe? If any friends ask if they can bring anything, take them up on their offers, you could suggest something like drinks, pretzels, or snacks.

That's exactly what I was going to say! Change the time of the party, and you eliminate a lot of the cost of food.

Re: Have to cancel the birthday party!!

if you can come up with a few dollars to serve food, serve something thats hearty, what about potatoe soup and french bread, or a big pot os pasta/speghetti, or if you can't quite do a meal a fruit salad or veggie tray? We've done finger sandwiches with good sucess too.

We don't usually do food for the party. Just cake, Ice-cream and punch.

I honestly think 3 p.m. is after lunch and before supper. Totally acceptable. I do kinda make sure people know it's cake and ice cream and not a big meal.

Re: Have to cancel the birthday party!!

Can you change it to a mid-afternoon party where you don't have to feed people? For my DS's 2nd birthday we put on the invitations "join us for cake & ice cream." So all I had to do was a cake, a half-gallon of ice cream, some chips & dip, and some lemonade. Oh and I think I picked up a veggie platter too but you wouldn't HAVE to, ya know?

You've probably thought of this already ... but re: your flex acct ... can you submit a claim on your own? You should be able to. Heck, my flex acct you can get reimbursed for HPTs!

I also vote for just cake & ice cream. I couldn't see doing much more than that, especially if you cut back the time to just a couple hours (also, that way your "circus" is out of your hair sooner!).

I'm going to try to get reimbursed from the flex acct. there is only like $46, but it's something, right??

I can't login for some reason, I keep reminding DH to get the login info, but he's a little thickheaded sometimes!!
