Breastfeeding and libido

Ok, I've heard that breastfeeding can cause a drop in your sex drive. I've been breastfeeding for 9+ months now and it seems like I haven't had any kind of a sex drive since before the baby. Is this normal while breastfeeding or do I need to worry? Is anyone else experiencing this?

(A little history, I could never get my first two to latch on so I pumped breastmilk for 3 months with my first and for 6 months with my second so this really is my first experience with actual nursing and with breastfeeding for this long.)

Re: Breastfeeding and libido

My libido didn't come back with my first two until my cycles returned. I'm only 4 months post pardum this time, so no af, and I have ZERO zex drive. Rather annoying, but normal.

Hope you find your libido soon!

Re: Breastfeeding and libido

I aslo had no interest in sex until AF returned (6mos postpardum, DD exclusively BF!)... hang in there. It totally stinks, but it will get better. I wouldn't worry too much.

Re: Breastfeeding and libido

yeah, i definitely noticed the correlation between getting af back & sex drive. mine came back at 4.5 month pp and it made a huge difference. i'm still bfing and haven't really felt like that caused problems. now for a lot of people breastfeeding (just not me apparnetly) will keep your cycles away so i suppose it's tied to the issue.

Re: Breastfeeding and libido

I BF DD for 7 1/2 months and have only had one AF PP, and I DEFINITELY had zero interest. It's slowly coming back with the onset of the awful AF but my husband is happy because I'm returning to a semblance of normalcy. Don't feel bad, you are not alone! (although I'm sure it feels like it, I know I felt that way)

Tyler is now 4.5 months old... I have had no desire at all until the last couple weeks... maybe AF is coming back?
Yeah, I think what you are going through is TOTALLY normal

Re: Breastfeeding and libido

It's good to know that others are experiencing the same thing. My little guy is 9 1/2 months and af still hasn't come back (I thought this was a win/win situation but I'll have to rethink that). I'll just have to try extra hard to get in the mood

You could try talking to your ob about it, b/c I believe there is treatment that can help. If I remember right there is some kind of topical cream you can use, I don't know if it's safe while b/f, but it might be worth looking into.
