Hand/Finger pain??

Hey ladies-

For the past few weeks, when I wake up in the morning I have horrible pain in my hands and fingers. Its so bad some mornings that I can hardley make a fist or open my hand the whole way. I've been told this is normal, due to nerves that the babies may be resting on... but over the past few days, its also started moving into my arms!! Every morning its like this! Anything I can do... or do I just have to wait until the babies are born?

Thanks so much!

Do you type a lot? It could be carpel tunnel which is known to be more pronounced during preg.

Also I was having problems the otherday and realized it was because I had been putting the tops of DSs sippy on too tightly and taking them off was making my hands hurt...is there anything you do repetitively that might be causing that?

Its soooooo bad though. I have an OB appt. tomorrow and I'm definitely going to bring it up.

oh mama I was reading your post thinking "wow thats what I had when pg w/ the twins" and then I saw you are pg with twins!!! It is like carpel tunnel because all the swollen blood vessels in your hands and wrists. I wore braces at night and they were a god send. I wore one and would switch off when I'd get up to pee. I have one you can have ffs if you like pm me I have a couple of sleeping babes on my lap or i'd type more but you can pm me with q's if youd like

yeah twins congrats!!!!!!!

Like the pp said it is carpel tunnel because all the swollen blood vessels in your hands and wrists. I have this really bad I do hair and at work my hands will go numb and hurt. I also wear a brace at night it helps alot. My hands feel ALOT better when I wake up if I wear the braces.

Re: Hand/Finger pain??

I had carpal tunnel with my son and am already getting it this time too. I never tried braces, but I bet they'd really help! I used to just make sure that my wrists were perfectly straight (and that I wasn't laying on them, that would make my whole arm numb) and my hands were out stretched (not all curled up). That kept it under control, but didn't completely alleviate it. Good luck mama!

Re: Hand/Finger pain??

Yep, carpel tunnel. I had it so badly with my last dd that I had to sleep in a recliner for months so that I wouldn't lie on my wrists or my back. The bad news for me is that it never went away after pregnancy. I thought it might go away after I finished nursing, but now I'm preggo again! Oh, well, I guess I'll have the surgery SOMEDAY!

The braces do help most people. I'm sure that is what your ob will suggest. Hope you find a way to make it better. Oh, and I was told it was due to the increased amount of fluids in your body.

Re: Hand/Finger pain??

Yep, just had to add that the braces are a God send! I had these glove type ones that were pretty comfy, too. The pain was sooooo much better! Don't wait it out, just go get some!

Good luck!

I didn't have carpel tunnel but my hands would always fall asleep when I was preggers. This sounds much worse though! Hope you get some relief!

Re: Hand/Finger pain??

i went through this while pg with ds#1, it happens alot during pregnancy, i couldnt close my hands at all, i couldnt even hold my son for long, i had to get wrist braces, then i heard of those bracelets, they have metal and are twisted and have copper/brass/ and nickel in them, after only a week of wearing this, the pains went completely away, i still wear my bracelet everyday, id ont take it off and the pains have never returned and i do type alot
my ds#1 will be 5 this coming december, i heard about these bracelets and had to find them and sure enough, it works.
