Is flannel OK for customized burp cloths?

I want to make some customized burp cloths for the baby. I picked up a cotton knit type fabric and used a similar one I already had to try my hand at them the other day. Then I read on a craft type blog that a mom felt after she made them and was able to actually use them on her baby that those sorts of burp cloths were a waste because the material kind of repelled. She suggested customized burp cloths outlined in ribbon instead.

I really like the fun (I used Star Wars and cute dog) fabric down the center though and I'm wondering though if flannel would work better.

What are your thoughts?

Using prefolds you can put fabric down the middle. Just make sure they all have been prewashed.

I prewash fabric before I work with it and the prefolds were already kinda quilty but I'm sure I've washed them since I got them too. I will prep whenever I prep the cloth diapers.

I use, and prefer, flannel for cloth wipes so I thought maybe trying flannel down the middle would work but still allow me cute prints and more "customized" feel. Others I will make with just ribbon embellishments.

I have put flannel down the center of prefold diapers many times and it works wonderfully!

I think flannel would work great! I make baby sets and sell them in my shop on Etsy (www.bundlebaby.etsy.com). I use regular cotton and various trims down the middle of prefolds and the mother's who have purchased from me love it. Cotton or cotton flannel would be very absorbent. There are so many cute cotton prints. If you order from somewhere like fabric.com the cotton is a great quality and very soft. Good luck!
