What to do when sick

Does anyone have any natural remedies for when you are sick? I have a huge headcold right now and its really making it hard to function. I think its also going down into my chest cause I'm coughing today too I hate to take cold medicine when I'm not preggo and I can never remember which ones are safe anyway. Anyone have any ideas to feel better?

Re: What to do when sick

my midwife had me take fenugreek & thyme(sp?) to help with phlegm/mucus. came from the health food store and cleared me up in about 36 hrs (I know that seems like a long time, but IME the 'natural' or homeopathic things seem to take a bit longer to 'help' than the over-the-counter meds that just treat the symptoms anyway). don't forget eucalyptus oil in humidifiers too!

sorry you're feeling bad and good luck!

Steam you head. I usually put Skinner's ointment (it's like Vick's but you can actually read the ingredient on the label) except I would probably skip it being preggers and just go for steaming water in a pot and putting a towel over your head and your head over the pot. It's basically a humidifier intensified. It always helps clear me up.
Hope you feel better soon!

I like to start taking Vitamin C, zinc lozenges, garlic capsules, and echinacea (usually Vitamin A too but not during pregnancy) as soon as I start feeling sick. Usually that stops it before it gets started. The steaming water is great too! Hope you feel better soon!

I use elderberry tea made from berries or tincture for headcold stuff, even during pregnancy. It works quite well for me. My sister swears that eating lots of elderberry jelly helps her, and tastes better. Hope that helps!

last time I was pregnant I found a "cure". Slice some onions, pour sugar over them, let it sit until i makes juice and then you drink the juice. I did work but after the first time I couldn't get it down again.
Hope you feel better soon.

I would reccomend trying that "emergen-c" drink stuff. it has all kinds of vitamins in it, and its good to take when pregnant or nursing. otherwise i would take a soothing bath with bath salts or oils. being relaxed helps your body heal faster. ecinacha (sp?) also works well too. im pretty sure you can take it while preggers too! Hope you feel better!!!

be sure to search out any herbs before taking them.. I just saw a few mentioned that are listed in my herb book as not being recommended for use during pregnancy~

I would take some Oregano or Olive Leaf and probably some Emergen-C as well

Hot and Sour Soup,as hot as you can stand it. It clears up the sinuses nicely and tastes yummy too
