Our first few days with Nathaniel John

Nathaniel John was born at 10:11AM on 19 September 2007. He weighed 8 pounds and measured 20 inches long. We had to have him transferred to the Akron Children's Hospital due to mild respiratory distress. At the time, there was a concern that he had pneumonia, which would require a 7-10-day hospital stay in Akron. Fortunately, we found out Thursday the 20th that he did not have an infection at all and just had some fluid in his lungs. By Saturday, his breathing issues (needing extra oxygen and also breathing too many times per minute--sometimes as many as 100 times per minute) were gone and we were just working on getting him to breastfeed successfully. That was accomplished through the night Saturday night, and we were discharged early Sunday afternoon. We are all home now, along with my mother and her mother, who have been here since Tuesday to take care of the girls while I was in the hospital.

Praise God for everything turning out well in the end! Congratulations on your successful start at breastfeeding! Those are some tough circumstances.

I'm so glad that everything is all right- DS3 had a lung collapse right after he was born and it was terrifying! He was in the NICU for 2 days and I had a hard time getting the nurses to allow him to breastfeed.
Where are you at mama?
I live in Canton!
