Can we compete for lowest utility bills?

I have been really working on this and my electricity, gas, and water for my house was only $82 for my house this month!! It would usually have been about $200 this time of year before.

Re: Can we compete for lowest utility bills?

WOW way to go mama!

We don't pay water (live in an apartment and that's paid) so I have no idea how much that is... we also do not have gas-- everything's electric.

SO our total for those this month was $92 (just electric.) We do have the "green power" thing... which, as much as I honestly HATE to, I will be calling to have switched back to regular power tomorrow... we just can't afford it now that weather is getting colder and it is getting dark earlier. It adds about 11-12% to our bill!

$53 for (water/sewer/electric) We use energy saver bulbs, don't water the lawn and don't use AC.

Re: Can we compete for lowest utility bills?

Electric: $45.15
Gas: $27.87
and our landlord takes care of water, so we dont' pay that, which is great because my girls played on the slip and slide a lot this summer since we have no A/C. And they fully endorsed that and bought us a kiddie pool to fill for them with the stipulation that I empty it every 2 days so there's no standing water for mosquitos(we live near a river).

The gas will be going up soon because we will have to turn on the heat soon as it gets down to 56degrees in the house in the mornings(47outside today) and the electric should be going down another $5-10 soon. So that brings me to a grand total of:

$73.02!!!!! YAY!

But looking closely at my gas bill shows that they add a $9 service charge every month! WHY?

I'm anxious to get my first bill for this apartment. I have been doing laundry non-stop since we got here but the good thing is that the heat and water are included in rent so hopefully we will not have a huge bill.

Re: Can we compete for lowest utility bills?

Wow, that's awesome! Our water/sewer/other city charges bill ALONE is at least $55 a month. In the summer, it's anywhere from 70-90 depending on how much we water our lawn (we had it seeded last year). I honestly don't think I could cut our water bill down anymore...we even have an HE washer!

This summer, our electric was around $125 but it's much lower in the winter when we're not running the Central Air. (I WILL NOT live without central air in the summer...it gets SO humid here during the summer.) There are a couple of things we can do to cut down on electricity bills, but I still doubt it would get lower than $100/month in the summer.

Our gas bill right now is $19/month, but will be $60-70 a month this winter when we're running the furnace. We keep the temp set around 68, too...it just gets SO stinkin' cold and windy here in the winter.

Yeah, our utility bills are well over $200/month. I can't complain too much because we do have a home to call our own.
