Re: Just wondering....

I agree with some of the others that when they are about 5 mins apart or when you can't talk through them...

Re: Just wondering....

I never know if I am in real labor or not until I started dry heaving . . . . then the baby is crowning & it's too late!

If you're afraid of 'not making it in time' you might want to read up on unassisted home births in case it happens on accident. That way you won't freak out if there's a snowstorm or things happen quickly.

Every labor and delivery is different.. I would say that when contractions start getting strong enough that you no longer feel like talking through them it woudl be a good idea to head in.

It would be great to learn how to check yourself so you can actually tell how far you are progressing.. If you all of a sudden get chilly and kinda shivery feeling you will have made it to transition and if you get that far I wouldn't bother loading up and trying to make it to the hospital

Have you looked into having a Midwife or do you have your heart set on a hospital birth?
I was freezing and asked for a blanket and they looked at me like I was crazy. They said no one ever gets cold.

Re: Just wondering....

I was having them 2 minutes apart from the start but I waited until they were strong and feeling more pressure and had her a half hour later.
I dont know if I would recommend that since you are so far awy from your hospital lol but yeah I think you will know when its time to go and definitely look into unassisted births and have a plan just in case.

Re: Just wondering....

I went when my contractions were 4 minutes apart. I felt fine until we were about 10 minutes away and I felt her drop and DH floored it! The hospital was about 30 minutes away. I have heard that the second baby can come faster and I believe it! We got there and I had her naturally. I agree with pp about the childbirth classes, any and all information will make you feel better!
