Brand vs. Generic foil and freezer bags

Doing some OAMC this weekend and need to buy some aluminum foil and freezer bags. Since I'm freezing a whole month's worth, should I buy the more expensive (trusted) brand name or do you find generic to be just as reliable? TIA!

I don't use plastic baggies much, so I can't compare for you, but you can get the name brand ones cheaper at dollar general. Don't forget to wash and re-use any that didn't contain meat

Aluminum foil is aluminum foil. lol

Re: Brand vs. Generic foil and freezer bags

I heard its unsanitary to reuse ziplock type baggies because germs/bacteria get in cracks, but either way I would use the name brand stuff because the seal is better, if its just for lunches or something I get the cheaper brands, but it would suck to do that work and have it get freezer burn.

I can NOT stand the store brand foil! I have to have reynolds wrap...freezer bags I buy in bulk at sams club so those are ziplock brand...

If it was just cookies or crackers in the bag I have no problem putting the same thing back into it...if it was meat, leftovers, fruit, veggies, etc then the bag gets tossed

Re: Brand vs. Generic foil and freezer bags

i HATE to say it, but I think the zipper seals on Ziploc freezer bags are MUCH stronger than store brand, AND i think reynolds wrap is much sturdier than generic foil, and for OAMC, i recommend the name brands

Sucks though, but those are two things i dont think the generic brands cut it.

We don't use zipper bags at all...

I hated the cheap foil but found some at walmart that was in a red box and like it better than the super thin stuff that is sold at the dollar store.

Re: Brand vs. Generic foil and freezer bags

I get whatever I can get at the dollar tree. Sometimes they have the name brand stuff, sometimes not. They pretty much always have the reynolds foil that pops up and I love that stuff. But right now we are using the generic thick grill stuff cause apparently I bought too much over the summer. lol
