Re: Homebirth kit
You know, I have a WHOLE bunch of HB supplies that we just didn't have time to use that I would be willing to sell or trade... I need to get all that stuff together anyway, would you like to see a list?

Re: Homebirth kit
I did an UC but did buy some things http://www.birthsupplies.com/
http://www.inhishands.com/ I used lots of towels and sheets that I bought at the thrift store but made sure to disinfect prior to the birth. Your midwife will probably give you a list of what she needs.

Re: Homebirth kit
I have my list from my MW somewhere. I'll see if I can find it. I bought a ton more stuff than we ended up needing/using, but I'm glad we had it on hand just in case. Birth is one of those situations in which you're much better off over-preparing for, IMHO.

Re: Homebirth kit
WOW! My list was right where I thought it was. That never happens!
This is alot longer than I remember it being! I starred all the items we didn't use. We had a waterbirth. If I had birthed on land, we may have used a lot more of the supplies. 1 Plastic mattress cover* 2 sets of clean sheets* 4 large bath towels 4 washclothes 1 pair of warm socks, if desired* 6 receiving blankets or baby towels 1 clean old towel cut into 4"x4" squares for compress rags Baby clothes, including hat and booties All of the above washed in hot water with a mild detergent, placed in the dryer (on high), then imeidately put in a plastic bag. 1 flashlight with new batteries* 1 fleet enema* 1 box kotex overnights 1 package of (50ct) Chux pads--we only used 2 or 3 of these 1 plastic drop cloth or shower curtain 2 large plastic garbage bags 2 gowns* 4 or more pillows with clean cases 2 thermometers, oral for adult and rectal for infant* 1 bottle unopened olive oil* 1 roll unopened paper towels* 1 bottle alcohol* 4 large bottles of peroxide* 1 can disinfectant spray such as lysol* bulb syringe* Qtips Antibacterial handsoap Food and beverage (I used Emergen-C, but they also list Recharge) Pantyliners soaked in comfrey tea, put into snack size zip-locs, and frozen* There are even instructions on how to make the bed A firm bed, plastic mattress cover, one set of clean sheets, plastic shower curtain or drop cloth, another set of clean sheets for labor and delivery on top. Sorry it's so long!

Re: Homebirth kit
I used a homebirth supply company, called In His Hands.
Shonda parker now owns her own store and its lovely too. You could google it. We did the basics...a clamp, a few hats, snot sucker, and I bought extras..herbal cord care, herbal mama care, some lovely sitz herbs for later (In His hands sells this in big bulk bags for cheap. ) Lavendar oil for the postpartum bath is healing. |
