Ways to Conserve Water

I just learned this one yesterday and was all "well DUH!"

Fill a plastic bottle with water and put in the toilet basin. It will displace some of the water so the basin doesn't have to fill so much.

What are other ways you conserve water?

I fill one side of the sink with hot water when I'm getting ready to load the dishwasher that way I can throw the stuff in that side that need a little work to get ready for the diswaher instead of having the water running all of the time.

We also have a water saving shower head.

I've done that one for years ...

For awhile, I was taking navy showers ... you turn off the water while you lather up. But, I get cold! So, I've been turning down the pressure. And, having a major haircut (from below shoulder blade-length to chin-length) reduces my shower time, too!!

If it's yellow let it mellow....

We got a HE washer...good thing since I'm always washing dipes!

I did the Navy shower thing too when I had long hair. Now it's short so it takes about 3 minutes to wash.

Re: Ways to Conserve Water

It might be a real duh but teaching your kids & DH, as well as practicing yourself, little things like turning off the water when you're brushing, etc will really help!

Also, only washing full loads of dishes and laundry.

Don't take full baths. I think I can take a relaxing bath with the tub not all the way full to the top.

Kids can share a bath or you can have them bath after another.

You can use bath water to water your plants or grass (we use natural soaps, etc so we're ok with that & it really helps!) instead of going down the drain to waste!

We also use our water from boiling veggies, pasta, etc for the outside or garden. Hate to just toss in the drain.
