Question Thrifty GOALS

What are your goals for *staying* thrifty/saving money?

How are you doing on reaching them?

aka....what are you avoiding/giving up etc?

Re: Thrifty GOALS

awesome, go you!

-no more eating out!
-shopping @ krogers for groceries from now on
-start using coupons
-putting some $ back for emergencies
-organizing dd's clothes so i dont have to buy a whole other dresser for ds's clothes
-drink more water and less tea (saves on sugar)

OCTOBER GOAL ($$): Save $500 by end of october (starting oct 1st)

Put it in an envelope under your dinner plates.

Re: Thrifty GOALS

Seriously, this is so inspiring, to read what you mamas have done and are doing! I have just discovered this forum, and I LOVE it!

I was brought up by the Master Tightwad (my mother), so I'm pretty used to some things, but DH and I would REALLLLLLY like to be able to take advantage of the slow housing market right now to buy our first home. So I am trying to make all kinds of cuts and what-not.

My goal is to keep things feeling generous here, because if DH thinks I am on a tightwad run, he starts spending. But if he feels pampered and cared for, he doesn't need to run out and buy new books or junk food.

So . . . I am collecting ALL the tips from you wise mamas!

Okay, off my rambling for now . . .

Re: Thrifty GOALS

My 2 main goals right now are to start using cloth napkins and family cloth just for me for #1. I'm the only one right now that uses toilet paper regularly so I figured I'd do the family cloth for tinkles. I was able to do a trade for those and am now searching for some fabric that will go with my Mary Engelbreit kitchen for a friend to sew me up some napkins with.

Another thing I like that I started doing a while back is not having my pantry and fridge packed full of food that I'll never use. Our pantry looks bare just because I only have what we will use and that also helps make sure it will be used because it will not get hidden behind something. To me, it's like money sitting there if you're not going to use something.
