Re: Changing the name?

I would pronounce Lana with a short a, like "Lonna", not like Lawna, not at all. I agree with PP's that you should spell it Launa. Raine is fine just like that. I really don't see a need to change it. My friend's DD's middle name is Raine. I don't see how anyone could confuse it with Renee .

Re: Changing the name?

I don't think Raine is a problem at all. I would pronounce it like Rain. I thought Lana was LANE-ah though. The only spelling I can think of that would make me thing LAWN-ah is Launa. I like the way Lana looks though. There are lots of people with unique names that just have to correct people.

Re: Changing the name?

LOL I guess I was the only one who didnt think Raine = Renee. My best friend though her middle name is Raine and her mom pronounces is "Renee". I could never figure it out but to each is own. You should name your child whatever makes you happy.

Re: Changing the name?

I have a friend named Lana...pronounced Lah-nah. I would never have gotten Lawn-nah.

As for Raine...uhhh that is about as straight foward as an arrow. My daughter is Phallon Reighn and people get that right. We have family friends in England and their last name is Raine.

I think they are both great names! I would see Lana and pronounce Lah-nah... which is basically Lawn-nah but I'm originally from RI so my accent is a bit diff I definitely don't see Lane-ah and I don't think most people would ?? I think Raine is a great spelling. And considering it is a middle name it won't be pronounced that often at school etc.

How about Lonna? Like Donna but with an L. Launa is pretty too though. And if you like Lana and pronouce it like Lonna then do that. I go by 'Jennifer' and don't accentuate the gIn, although most people call me Gin-afer. My DH and I dated for 6 years before I realized he was calling me that.

But really, at least you can spell. I was talking to a dr. the other day who had a patient that was upset because everyone was mispronouncing her daughters name! The girls name was Rel. And naturally everyone called her 'Rell' but the mom insisted it was pronounced 'Arrielle'. Yeah, if you say each letter name individually it is R.E.L. Maybe she should have put the periods in!

Re: Changing the name?

I have a cousin Alannah that goes by Lana (pr. lah-nah) and several other Lana's that pronounce it the same way so I always assume that the name is pronounced the same way she does. I've never met/heard of any one pronouncing it Lane-ah, maybe its a regional thing?

Re: Changing the name?

Ok so aparently I am out numbered! Maybe it is a regional thing. I am on the West Coast and I guess my brain lumps Lana with Elaina. But I looked it up on www.behindthename.com and Lana comes from the Russian name Alana which is the feminine version of Alan.
