You just reminded me of the police dog who was shot and killed a few months ago whose name was pronounced like the three letters, D.O.G. I can't remember if they spelled it differently, but hearing it on the news, I thought it must look something like "Dioggi" with the accent on the "O."

Re: Changing the name?

Why should it matter? Usually all you have to do is correct someone once if they pronounce it wrong and they usually remember from then on out. How often to people see the name written anyway? When people find out another's name it is usually verbally-
OP: "Oh how adorable, what's her name?"
You: "Her name is Lana Raine."
OP: "What a beautiful name."

If you like the way it is spelled I would keep it that way. I would also pronounce the name the same way you do with the way it is spelled.

I agree!

I see Raine as rain, but I always thought Lana was like Anna with an L in front L-anna. To me Lahna looks like the pronunciation you chose.

Spell her name how you want to spell it, she's YOUR daughter. I had a tough time getting people to understand my youngest sons name, its Ewan like Yoo-un and people are forever calling my daughter Hallie(sounds like Halle Berry) Haley or Holly.

Re: Changing the name?

I see Raine as rain..like from the sky. But I had no idea that Lana was law-na, I've always thought it was like Layna. I don't think you should change the name to please dh's family, but I think Rayne would be nice if you're using it to commemorate Raymond.

ETA: I hadn't read any of the other posts, but thought I'd edit and add it since I read something I was going to mention I was thinking Launa would be a good way to spell Lana to get the right sound across. Lonnah? I'm not too fond of Lawna because it reminds me of SIL Shawna. But she's your daughter! Spell it how you want!

Re: Changing the name?

I would walk up to hubby and ask who do you really want to make mad about this , me or grandpa , then remind him who he comes home to every night . I would just tell him that this is y'alls child and that this is the name you both agreed to and that it would be pretty crappy if he made you change it because of what anyone else would think esp with it being a name with meaning to you .

Re: Changing the name?

I was pronouncing Lana as "lay-nuh" oopsie! Raine def looks like rain to me but since your naming her after Raymond you could also do Rayne. I love her name!

I honestly dont see how Raine could be mistaken for Renee though LOL

Re: Changing the name?

people are so weird! just name her whatever and spell it however you and your hubby want. people will either get it or not - such is life. you can come up with humorous responses to idiotic questions.

it can be helpful in sorting out phone calls as well...my husband's name is sean - my favorite is when people call and ask for "seen". that way i always know it's a telemarketer.

Re: Changing the name?

When I see Lana, I hear Lawn-ah, not lane-ah (I would expect that to be spelled Laina, like Elaina).

I have to say I do think Rayne looks nice, but I am partial to "y", LOL, and with the y it is VERY similar to Raymond.
