New Mama -Question/Fustration about Foremilk/Hindmilk and green poop!!

Hey Mamas,
My little guy is 4 weeks old, until about 4 days ago bf was going great no problems (other than a latch issue that was fixed when he was a few days old with the help of a great LC). His poop had been that perfect yellow seedy poop. Then this past friday it all changed! IT is green! I have been reading and I know this can be a problem with getting too much foremilk not enough hindmilk, so we have been doing the nursing on one side for a period of time and not switching sides as often. It isn't changing his poop color back to yellow yet and we have been doing this since Saturday. He is gassier and spitting up a bit but he is not fussy or unhappy actually very happy and pleasant when he is awake, he is sleeping great (3sih hours at a time at night, 2ish during the day when he sleeps), still have lots of wet diapers and poopy diapers, they are just green!! Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? What can I do to get the mustard poop back??
I will be going to a luncheon tomorrow for new mama's (went last week as well) and I can weigh him to see if he is loosing weight, last week he weighed 6lbs 11oz. He has been gaining weight steadily since we came home. Was 5lbs 14oz at birth. The LC will also be there so I can talk to her as well.
If you made it this far though my ramblings thank you! I would appreciate any suggestions!

I may not be popular with some Mamas for saying this but as long as baby is happy and gaining, don't stress too much with the poop colour.

Poop changes colour really quickly when exposed to air to begin with so that doesn't help. There might be an imbalance with fore and hind as well but you're already doing a lot to combat that anyway. Some babes have more sensitive systems and their poop will not always be the classic mustard.

If I worried every time my girlie had greeny poops, I'd have no hair left. It seems to go in cycles for us but she's gaining fine so no worries here.

When my kiddos had green poop and were gassy and spitting up, they were reacting to something I was eating! Just a thought. And sometimes it takes a little while to show up when they have a problem with something.

I agree. If you baby is fine then it is no big issue. When I asked my midwife about poo and poo color she said to not even worry about it. It will change all the time. Some times my babys poop is green, some times brown and some times yellow. It could be a reaction to something you are eating, but if it doesn't bug him no need to overhaul your diet.

However nothing overrides mothers instincts. If you are worried go to the doc. Good luck!

Definitely don't stress about it. When my Newbie has green doodoo, I just joke with her that she is only drinking the candy (fore) and not eating her vegetables (hind)...and then, just like you, I make her nurse one boob at a time (which we all prefer anyway). Extra foremilk causes gassy babies too. And especially if he is happy and pottying, he's good.

Thanks Mamas for the words of encouragement. I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't something else I should be doing or if I should be concerned. I just want to make sure he is getting all the good stuff he should!
Thanks again!!

Re: New Mama -Question/Fustration about Foremilk/Hindmilk and green poop!!

I wouldn't stress...my DS's poop changed from the yellow seedy to an orange brown color at around 3-4wks or so....

If you think it's b/c of to much foremilk i was told you shouldn't BF any LESS than 1 1/2-2hrs. apart b/c otherwise your breasts haven't filled with enough milk and they only get foremilk...

Saying this my sons poop changed color and he usually eats every 2-3hrs. so to much foremilk wasn't our problem.

I think my DS only had the classic yellow poo once or twice. BF babies can have a range of shades of poo. Light yellow to dark green. It is totally normal. If there is weight gain, I wouldn't worry too much. Poo colors will change as their intestines "mature".

the only thing i would watch for is that if it's green and mucousy plus he's gassy, then it could be a dairy intolerance. when i eat any sort of dairy (which i've avoided for 6mths now!) ds will have green mucousy poo and be very gassy and irritable. good luck!
