Thick, yellow toe nails. Help! I don't even want to think about it!

My DS has thick, yellow toenails on both of his pinky toes. It has been going on for a while, but... honestly, I HATE feet. I just can't think about foot funk. I have to change the channel whenever any of "those" commercials come on. (Oh, I'm cringing as I type this.) I guess I've just been hoping it would go away and they would grow normal.

From my VERY limited knowledge, I think this is a sign of a fungus? Can I treat it with OTC stuff? Do I need to see a doctor? He's 2 years old.

How old is your DS. It is common for some babies to get that and they will grow out of it. That is what happened to my DS when he was a baby. Don't worry too much about it. Even if you put cream on it it still doesn't work and he will grow out of it.

I know all baby's toenails look weird for a while. That's why I kept thinking he would grow out of it, but he's two now. All of his other toenails look normal now. These don't.

I don't know. I might be inclined to take my DC to the Doctor for something like that just to make sure it's nothing serious. I know nails can indicate many things about a person, including deficiencies and diseases. I'd probably get it checked out. A home remedy for fungus though, is Vicks Vaporub. You can put that on the toenail and try to wedge a little under it every night, and that will kill fungus. I've tried it successfully on myself.

i dunno. my 2 year old daughters pinky toe nails are the same. they aren't really yellow but they are thick. i thought fungus too but it doesn't bother her at all and when i clip them it doesn't look like fungus. (my dh had toe nail fungus for a long time before DD was born.

Re: Thick, yellow toe nails. Help! I don't even want to think about it!

i had a gross nail infection in my thumb from a manicure...basically it lasted for almost a year...the nail died, cracked, was gross and yellow, then it fell off and came back beautiful. Nastiest thing ever. I know you can get prescription pills and such...and i tried all of the creams (didn't do crap because it was so far under the nail by the time i saw a doctor)...if it's on his toe and he won't play with it (make it spread) i would just treat it with cream but know that it will take a while to heal...a long while. I just remember hiding my thumb and pulling the nail back from the thumb and trying to get cream underneath...by the end i could pull it all the way back...then it all came off...then the cream when on the skin underneath and it came back fine.
