Good carrier for 2.5yr old

I had an Ergo but that was too complicated to work with for short trips. I'm looking for something I can put in my messenger bag and whip out when DS is too tired or doesn't wanna walk. Something that isn't gonna look like Im trying to contortion myself into lol. He's 28lbs. Any ideas for simple, quick, and sturdy? TIA!!

Re: Good carrier for 2.5yr old

have you tried a pouch?

I have a slinglings that works great for quick hip carries with my 21 month old

A ringsling also works really well for hip carries with a tired toddler

they both fold up really small to stick in your bag when you are not using them too!

I LOVE the pouches that I make...not to be biased LOL..but you can definitely carry your toddler in a pouch SO much easier....My dd who is now 4 can still be slung, she loves it, and it is fun to put her on my back too! Let me know if you are interested in seeing any pics...I have some for sale!!!!

Yeah, I'd go with a pouch for quick on and off. You're not going to be able to wear it hours on end with a heavier child, but it should be comfortable for what you want it for.

Re: Good carrier for 2.5yr old

I couldn't wear dd in a pouch or ring sling after about 16 months old, I had to switch to a 2-shouldered carrier. I love mei tais, they're awesome!

Re: Good carrier for 2.5yr old

I should probably mention I have severe back problems. (hurts me just standing after a few mins), the Ergo really did hurt more so than I thought it would. So would hip carrying be best? Also how do I know what size to get? I went on the hotslings site and tried to measure shoulder to hip ( i have a normal tape measurer), but the size that's comming up is for a 5'7" girl. Im short and heavy, so I would still need to use the bigger size? What about peanut shells are they like hotslings? (couldn't find the sizing info that part wasnt working)

Re: Good carrier for 2.5yr old

peanut shells are like hotslings. I have both and prefer the hotsling b/c I like a little stretch in the fabric. my hotsling has 3% spandex.
a single shoulder carry would not be good for someone with back problems..but you were looking for a carrier for "quick trips" the pouch is definitely the best for that.
a mei tai is also a nice carrier, and once you get the tying down..it can be pretty quick too. (but still comparable time wise to your ergo)

if I was you I would just get one pouch to try out...see how you like it. maybe used, so it wont be as much $$$
when measuring..the most important measurement is the cross measurement..from shoulder to hip.
weight, and height just to help guide you.
but your size choice should be based on your cross measurement.

post here if you need help with picking a size..
