Why use PUL?

I'm just curious why PUL is used for diapers instead of other waterproof materials like nylon (although I think BG are nylon)? I know for me it's more readily available because my local Joanns carries it, and it's cheaper. It also feels thinner. I'm really clueless, so educate me!

I think it breathes better than nylon, but I'm not positive. I'll be interested to hear what everyone says!

Yes, it's more breathable, softer, and more durable then nylon

I think that I use it because it doesn't leak and I think nylon does. I just learned that my local store carries it. A friend told me so now I have to go look

What makes PUL more durable? Nylon is basically plastic, so I figure it probably lasts for just about ever. It does it landfills anyway. I just figured out that I have diapers made of nylon (which is what gave me the idea to look), and they are my most reliable diapers. When I pour water on the nylon it puddles up like on a rain coat and just sits there.

I have a question about breathability, too. Just because a fabric doesn't let water through, doesn't mean it can't let air through, right? Water is a much bigger molecule than air, I think, so couldn't nylon and PUL be about as breathable (which isn't much anyway).

On a side note, I tried sewing with it last night, and it's a pain in the butt. I think I'm going to try fusing the layers together before I sew.

I think you can get compression wicking with nylon - like in a tent when it's raining if you have anything touching the sides the moisture will wick through the nylon based on past experience

Oh, yeah. That is what I meant with leaking was compression leaking.
