Fish oil?

I am not much of a fish eater....at all, not in the least bit. WHile I was nursing, I took fish oil pills. I nursed Jacy for a year until I no longer had breast milk to give her. So now, she hardly ever eats fish. I am worried because I know that it is good for their brain. Even cooking fish makes me get sick. So is there one specific type of fish to give her? Is there a supplement? Sorry to sound ignorant but I am not a seafood person.

I do not like burping fish, so I refuse to take fish oil. Instead we take flax oil. And for ds, I mix milled flax seed (you can find it in the vitamin department) into his oatmeal in the morning-like a heaping teaspoon.

I give my middle DD fish oil capsules. She likes me to break the capsule and squeeze it onto a spoon for her. Yuuuccckkk. So I guess that proves that everything is an aquired taste. They do help her sooo much though.

What kind of fish oil were you taking that gave you fishy burps? Fishy buprs is a sign that the oil quality isn't all that good (but hey, if the flax seed oil is working, then you've found something that works )

I can't think of the brand name, but I get chewable fish oil pills at my local co-op. Yeah, I know, the thought of bursting a fish oil capsule in your mouth seems awful, but these taste GREAT, like strawberry!

That's what we use for both our kids and they love them. I have tried them and they do taste like strawberry, but I still don't think they taste good. DD on the other hand acts like they are candy.

Re: Fish oil?

As one pp said, flax oil is also high in Omega-3s -- the same thing that makes fish so important to a baby's diet. You could get flaxseed oil and put a droplet or two in her morning oatmeal every day.

Re: Fish oil?

I could have sworn flaxseed didn't contain omega 3s.

Nordic Naturals is a GREAT, high quality brand. I have a fish oil from Nordic Naturals - it's a lemon flavor. I haven't been able to take it since becoming PG, though, because I have pretty bad reflux and I can even taste the lemon-y oil. Everything makes me feel these days.....

I LOVED taking them, though. They really made a difference in how I felt. I also took a bottle of flaxseed in-between 2 bottles of fish oil and they just weren't the same.

ETA: I know that Nordic Naturals makes a fish oil for kids but we haven't tried them because they're not chewable. The kid needs to be old enough to swallow a pill... and my 3 year old just isn't there yet. LOL!
