Re: Smelly Smelly! Need Help!

I'm having the same problem and can't wait to try using bleach in my next washing.

Question can the bleach be used with the dipes too or just the inserts?

Do they have All free & clear in Canada? That's what I'm using. Most detergents that are free of dyes and such are ok. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard you should use liquid detergent too.

I've also heard that using a few drops of lavender essential oil works well too.

I use vinegar and it works so well! I add it in my first rinse.

When I had problems before I was told it was the ALL Free and Clear that I was using. It has the enzymes and optical brightners that are bad. Check out this site http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.co...entchoices.htm

Try just 1/2 cup of baking soda instead of the detergent when youwash them. Also using the white vinegar helps. Also you might want to strip your washing machine to get out all the build up of detergents.

Allens Naturally is available at www.punkinheadkids.com. It is expensive for the jug, but you use so little because it's a super concentrate, that it really isn't any more expensive than other detergents (or very little). If you order, let Jill know that Gaeleen referred you!

Re: Smelly Smelly! Need Help!

I currently use my prewash cycle with just baking soda in cold water
I than wash in hot with a small amount of All with vinegar in a downy ball.
Should I rinse again?

What other detergents can be used other than Allens?

How do I strip my washing machine?

So many questions. Thanks everyone!

I do the same thing you do, Candy....same detergent and everything. I do add some baking soda to the hot wash too. I read recently that it helps get all the detergent out...not sure if that's true or not, but i can't hurt i guess. Does your machine let you set the second running to do an extra rinse? Mine does that and I always set it to rinse a second time.

If you go to diaperhyena.com, there's info about stripping your machine...I did it just yesterday...do it every 1.5-2 months and it makes a difference, at least for me.

I use Sun detergent, but I don't think that's available in Canada. It's way cheaper than my regular detergent, which is a huge plus!

Be careful with vinegar though---we have very hard water, and adding vinegar just makes things smell SO much worse. It does work great, however, if you don't have hard water like I do!

Re: Smelly Smelly! Need Help!

I read on a site, cant remember which one, but its not as important to look for a "brand" as it is to check what is in the soap you are using. I know the generic brand at costco is really good on dipies.

I also use vinegar on my dipies and they work great

I dont use a "wetbag". I was low on funds, and I bought a collapseable laundry bag at walmart ($5) Its mesh so the air flows through it, and i have it sitting on the floor of my laundry room. It works great for us. I wash about every 3 days and never have a smell issue.
